Buckeye Fans opinion on adjustments

A few mixed points from other boards

This year was almost the exact opposite of 2014. That 2014 team faced nonstop doubt from the second Braxton got hurt in the offseason, only amplified by the early season loss. No one outside of Columbus believed in that team until after they had beaten Bama. This year everyone was hyping us up going into the season. Lost in the early season against a good team, but then strung some wins together and everyone was dying to get back on the hype train. Seems like the players and, most damning of all, the staff bought right into that hype with the rest of America. And the result was what happened yesterday afternoon.
----------------------------------------------------

I do think complacency has something to do with it but so does recruiting.  For the last few years, our big boost in recruiting rankings has been due to offensive players: Quinn Ewers, Kyle McCord, Marvin Harrison Jr, Treveyon Henderson, PJJ, Emeka Egbuka, JSN, Evan Prior.  Most of our five-stars who are currently rostered are on the O side of the ball.Fortunately, that has started to change.  JTT and Jack Sawyer are on the D-side and our current incoming class with CJ Hicks and Gabe Powers and the 2023 class with Sonny Styles.  Now let's get some kick ass coaches to develop them and scheme them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Sparty finished the season with the same record as Brutus. We whooped that ass last weekend and they had 20guys out with the flu, including 7-8 starters yesterday. They played in snow 10x worse than ours was and fought through the game to win it vs a penn state that was obviously the "better team".

Auburn blew a 10-0 lead against bama in the last two minutes of the game but was clearly overperforming for a 6-5 team.

I think motivation played into yesterdays results across the sport a TON.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
But using Clemson as a benchmark, they won 2 champ - mostly b/c of the DC and that defense (not offense).  Yes they had great QB and receivers/RB but I believe it was their D that made the diff.  That is the winning recipe.  We are far from it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
It is clear that defensive changes..especially in the coaching staff..must be done this offseason. After Bama & DeVonte Smith burned us in the NC when we were in a 4-4 set, nothing was learned at all. I saw too much 4-2-5 yesterday..and yet not ONE TFL in the game and only 5 passes thrown in the 2nd half by TTUN

So who does Day go after? Chris Ash for starters. Orgeron or Dan Mullen (before Nick Saban gets one of them)? Maybe. Jimmy Lake as a DC (like he was under Chris Peterson at UW)? Might be a stretch after what happened on the sidelines against the Ducks which cost him a 1 game suspension and later his job. Maybe a LB or DB coach position for him. Gary Patterson from TCU?

Three of the last four years our defense has been god awful in clutch situations. Defense wins championships..---------------------------------------------------------------------This team was very young and the upperclassmen, in general, were underwhelming.
The young core is now bloodied. They've been through the wars.
Improve the coaching in certain positions, manage the roster and get back after it. The future is bright.
------------------------------------------------------
Games from years ago mean very little. Not seeing the toughness on defense or in the trenches that we’re used to with the Buckeyes. Again, they will look different next year and maybe this was another perfect storm. We’ll see.
---------------------------------------------------------

O-line was at least okay in pass protection against two first round DEs. You’re going to give up sacks in that case. D-line got dominated in every single facet.
-------------------------------------------------

I agree the besides the unforgivable false start penalties the O-line was ok. If you pass a lot and some of the routes take a while to form some sacks are just a part of the game. Now the D-line was completely destroyed and it was sad to say the least. Coaching staff could have helped them out by bringing in another D-linemen or the safeties down. But apparently that's against the rules. On paper that Dline should be Georgia nasty. But they look horribly soft and no developed. Something needs to change in that area. Not calling for anyone's job... but they need to change up something.
-----------------------------------------------------
It’s all on the D sorry ..we were the nail and they were the hammer.

Suburbia:Where they tear out the trees & then name streets after them.
