Tripled the cost of our healthcare in year one.

We used to cover employees and their families 100 percent until then.

Now we cover only the employee, they pay $50 per paycheck (bi-weekly), and they can elect to cover their families.

That was a tough staff meeting.

One of my comments was "elections have consequences".

Not that Government workers give a shit...

Whether good or bad, the PPACA was something Obama got done, or signed.  He also managed to raise the top marginal income tax rate a couple points.

Did he close Gitmo?  Stop the oceans from rising?  Balance the budget?  Address climate change meaningfully?  Cut defense spending?  End any conflicts?  Negotiate any big peace agreements?  Ergo, I personally don't think he got much done.

(And the PPACA ended up costing me some money because my catastrophic health insurance plan was not longer an option.)

Newsom would get obliterated in November.

Even if I think peoples’ freak out about California are somewhat overstated, I tend to agree with this. Although I have talked to some people who think he would win easily, which also feels like dumb political brain.

I think Newsom would be competitive.  He'd have 40% locked up of course, along with that any "Blue States".  And for Purple States, I think he'd be competitive.  He'd tone down some of his previous more liberal commentary and present himself as a "moderately liberal" candidate who merely wants the "rich to pay their fair share", blah blah blah, and "common sense gun control", with as few specifics as possible.

Most liberal positions sound quite good without specifics.

Trump would eat him alive on policy alone. Then there's the record of actions. No chance.

I think he'd be the best Democratic option.  The key would be to mouth vague nice sounding policies and stay away from any details.

The other key would be to avoid "engaging" with Trump, just answer the questions (vaguely) at any debate as asked and let Trump be Trump.  A calm intelligent looking demeanor would do well, in my view.  Don't try and out Trump Trump.

When someone calls an extremist a centrist, that person is simply admitting that they twice as extreme.

What does Newsom have to run on?

Only a few states want to be like California. It's a hot mess.
I don't think issues matter anymore.  He's a handsome, confident face.

Trump isn't for anything, just against things.  He cares about 1 person on the planet.  His "policies" = how can he make 1 extra dollar.

The masses voted for "who they'd like to have a beer with" in 2000.  A smooth talker in 08.  And a game show host in 16.
Thanks, Karl Rove.  Going hard negative vs your opponent and spewing more lies than can be fact-checked is the algorithm for winning now.

There are enough ideologues and ignorance out there that actual policy has become irrelevant.
I hope I'm wrong.  But I find myself caring less and less.  Instead of 20% at each extreme and the middle 60% deciding things, we have 20% in the middle and 40% locked in on either end.  It's broken.

I haven't the desire nor the patience to interact with you.  Go take your checker game elsewhere.
