Was it worse than their blowout loss to Toledo in 2000?
Yes.

That was an unranked Penn State team that went 5-7, against a 10-1 Toledo team.

1) DUCKS - still stick them here but after Penn State's dithering against UCLA, it makes the case for how impressive really was the win in Happy Valley?
2)Bucks - 42-3 keeps them here
3)Hoosiers - The Hoosiers have looked fantastic aside from the trip to Iowa, and even then won when they had to
4)Washington - travel as far as they can for conference play and came back and won a tough contest against a Terp team that is pretty tough
5)Mishyeegan - won again but its best win is against UNL
6)Trojans - Riley's offense is a Hot Rod Lincoln but that defense has Jim Knowles contemplating another move
7)'Skers - beat an avg Spartan team but Riola seems to be playing well. Will no more as they travel to play the Terps, next
8) Illini - can make everyone forget about the Hoosier hammering as the neighborly Buckeyes are next - @ Home
9)PSU - lame game James coming off the loss at UCLA is prolly having buyer's remorse about Jim Knowles
10)Terps - seemingly had the game in the bag then got just sloppy enough

The rest are welcome to come on up

Yeah, but we didn't know that at the time. PSU was coming off of a 10 win season, and it was right when Big Ten teams first started playing Mac teams on the reg, which they viewed as being a notch above HS football.

Up until that point they'd won at least 9 games per year since joining the Big Ten. So the Toledo loss kicked off a five year skid.

Good perspective. This one seems a little more soul crushing. Could be the recency effect, but this one is such a crazy wow I never saw that coming factor. Not that losing to Toledo didn’t have a wow factor, but that was a time when local people were starting to see some incredible talent filter through Toledo and Bowling Green and down in Miami with Roethlisberger. Thursday night MAC football was gaining so much traction. Some of the best times for MAC football.
