Big Ten Power Rankings After Week 11
« on: November 12, 2023, 09:00:47 AM »
1.  Michigan - strange win where Michigan did not throw a pass in 2nd half

2.  Ohio St - dominant win over MSU sets up the big game in 2 weeks.

3.  PSU - clear #3 Now

4.  IOWA -  plays best game of season in  dominant shut out win over Rutgers.

5.  NW - dominates Wisc

6.  ILL - John Paddock for Big Ten MVP?

7.  Rutgers - good team but not ready for the big boys.

8.  Purdue - they may not win very often,  but when they do, watch out!

9.  Neb - basically gave the game away against MD.  Strangely still has a chance to win the West.

10.  MD -  good bounce back effort

11.  IND
12.  MINN
13.  Wisc
14.  MSU

not even gonna try and rank em.

Only thing I’m sure of is the top 3- and Penn State is 3rd.

Michigan - OSU are close, it’s a coin flip that’ll be decided Nov 25th in Ann Arbor.

  • Michigan: Great road win with everything going on. Running and playing defense is tried and true. Passing it for other leagues
  • OSU: Gap has narrowed from where they were earlier in the season, but injuries are mounting
  • PSU: My kingdom for a forward pass
  • Iowa: Over 400 yards of offense!
  • Rutgers: Uh...sure, why not. Bowl eligible.
  • Maryland: Bowl eligible and October is over.
  • Illinois, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwestern: The 5-5 B1G West
  • Purdue: Offensive explosion
  • Indiana: Offensive explosion but they lost
  • MSU: No explosions

Last week in parenthesis

  • OHIO STATE (1) - MSU's defense isn't good, but that was the best I've seen McCord
  • MICHIGAN (2) - I'd say November Maryland is never a trap game, but they nearly got OSU back in 2019 in this spot
  • PENN STATE (3) - their permanent spot in life
  • IOWA (4) - the battle for #4 was won with authority
  • RUTGERS (5) - man if even Rutgers had proven to be better than the whole Big Ten West...
  • MARYLAND (11) - way to stop the bleeding and get bowl eligible
  • ILLINOIS (7) - didn't see that shootout coming
  • WISCONSIN (6) - what the hell is going on there?
  • MINNESOTA (8) - not sure how P.J. Fleck is on any list for any other job
  • NORTHWESTERN (10) - if Northwestern can get bowl eligible after what happened, and how they looked early, that is COTY stuff
  • NEBRASKA (9) - from "how high can they get in the pecking order" to "can they get eligible"
  • PURDUE (14) - 2-5 in Big Ten play, with only one game within 3 scores, in either direction
  • INDIANA (13) - where did that passing game come from?
  • MICHIGAN STATE (12) - battle for #13 this weekend

FIFY, you spelled 2018 wrong.

In 2019 Ohio State scored 73 on Maryland and won by 59 points. That game was in early November.

In 2018 Maryland pushed Ohio State to OT (tOSU needed a late TD just to get to OT) and the terps lost on a 2pt conversion for the win.

The 2018 Maryland game for tOSU was eerily similar to what Michigan faces this weekend. It was sandwiched between high stakes games against ranked opponents.

that playoff scenario is really interesting to me.

IF everything holds pat, winner of M/OSU is in and loser out.

Do you want the #1 seed or #2 seed if you’re UGA or winner of Mich/OSU? FSU or Washington. Who would you rather play?

Gun to my head, probably rather play FSU. Washington has a shit defense, but with 3 NFL WRs (and I realize FSU has 2 NFL WRs) and Penix - man when he’s on and hot- that’s a tough offense to stop.

FSU has the better defense for sure and run game, but Travis isn’t in the same universe as Penix imo.

Speaking of playoffs who goes in this scenerio.

1. Mich barely beats OSU, wins the Big Ten, and finishes 13-0.
2. Ohio St barely loses to Mich and finishes 11-1
3.  Bama barely beats Georgia, wins the SEC, and finishes 12-1
4.  Georgia barely loses to Bama and finishes 12-1
5.  Texas wins Big 12 with 12-1 record
6.  Washington wins PAC with 13-0 record
7.  FSU wins ACC with 13-0 record.

I would guess Mich, FSU, Wash and Bama.  Even though Tex beat Bama.  I can't see the committee leaving out a 1-loss SEC champion.
