USC takes out Florida in Gainesville in 4 sets tonight.  Bob Lanier's daughter is a very talented player for USC.    The other big match this weekend is UT at UW Sat night on BTN.

BYU takes down #1 Stanford in Provo in 5.  Some interesting calls down the stretch benefit BYU which is legit top 5.

Ill beat CU in 1st Big v Pac match.  Iowa early lead on Wash.

OSU went 2-1 at the Rebel Invitational, with the lone loss coming at the hands of those host Rebels.

Not sure how good UNC is at volleyball, but MSU won all three games at their invitational this weekend.  3-0 over the two mid-majors, and 3-1 over host UNC.

UNC is a program that is trying hard to succeed at vball.   They had some 'ups' and then they suffered a lot substantial injuries last year, and have had a lot of roster turnover.   They will be better down the road then they are right now.    They hung around with Minnesota last week for a little bit.

But of course they are no match for Pitt.

Yeah, my unscientific data suggested it's a school that should be good, but I don't recall ever seeing their name deep in the tourney.

It's a swell landing spot for some of Nebraska's recruiting busts.

I had to check,  UNC did get to an elite 8 this decade as well as a couple sweet 16s.  They tend to play to their seed/unseed as it seems.  Keep in mind, the ACC rarely sniffs a FF (Fla St.  in 2011 was the only appearance).  As many as the Sun Belt (UT Arlington)

Early season trivia: FF appearances (counting current members, thus no separate Big 8/XII etc)
Pac 12: 51 (Stan 21, UCLA 12, USC 10, UW 4, Cal 2, AZ 1, UO 1)
BIG: 41 (N 14, PSU 13, Minn 5, Ill 3, OSU 2, UW 2, MSU 1, Mich 1)
Big West: 17 (Hawaii 9, LBSU 8)
XII: 13 (UT 12, KU 1)
SEC: 11 (Fla 8, LSU 2, Tenn 1)
West Coast: 10 (Pacific 7, BYU 2, Santa Clara 1)
MTN West: 3 (SDSU 2, SJSU 1)
Sun Belt: 1 (UT-Arlington)
ACC: 1 (FSU)

OSU had to vacate a few of their tourney runs from right around the turn of the Millennium.

Can't remember how far they got, but probably not the final four.

some good matches

Creighton will be pumped up for a shot at the Huskers tonight

The No. 7 Nebraska volleyball team makes its only non-conference road trip of the season this week when it makes the short drive up to Omaha to play the No. 14 Creighton Bluejays on Thursday at 7 p.m. at CHI Health Center Omaha. The Huskers will then return home to host Iowa State on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Both Husker matches this week will be televised. The Nebraska-Creighton match will be on NET-1 and will have a free live stream at NETNebraska.org.  The Huskers’ match against Iowa State will be televised on ESPNU and can also be viewed at WatchESPN.com.

#7 N at #14 Creighton in Omaha tonight was a dandy.  Creighton has never defeated Nebraska, and things look good for the BlueJays, pretty convincing 2-0 lead, but Nebraska pulled it out in 5 sets (15-10 5th).  14,000+ on hand. Looked about 50/50.  BTW, why is NET streaming always flawless, while BTN plus is always a clunky, latent riddled POS?

Nice docket of matches tonight (a few on TV).
#1 Minnesota goes down to #18UO (at Stanford)
#2 Wisconsin goes down in 4 at #15Baylor
Penn St at Stanford about to start on Pac12 Net.
#25 Marq beat #10 USC
BYU handled USC earlier.
Ill winning two matches today vs HO league participants.

BYU could very well be #1 next week.    Penn St the only other undefeated top 10 team at the moment.
ELA's Pitt Watch:   Handled a pretty decent Dayton squad in 4 sets, including the 25-7 4th.
