  • Ohio State - I don't know about everyone esle, but Stroud seemed to be off this past Saturday. He looked uncomfortable in the pocket and seemed as though he was rushing his throws. He threw some of the worst passes I've seen him throw. But the running game took over with T. Henderson and allowing M. Williams to show what he can do.
  • Michigan - Good win in a tough environment. Iowa has a stout Defense, but cannot hold up all game long without the offense contributing. Mich showed that they are one of the B1G elete teams.
  • Penn State - I didn't get to see this game, but a 10 point win against the worst team in the B1G shows some concerns. Perhaps it was just an off day for Penn State. We'll see how the season plays out.
  • Maryland - I can't think of a team below that I would put ahead of them right now. Good offense and the defense is serviceable.
  • Purdue - This team could challenge for the West title. Would this game have been different with Mo playing for Minn?
  • Minnesota - See above.
  • Illinois - Is Bert the answer for the Illini? So far, so good.
  • Iowa - They need to find an offense.
  • Wisconsin - Did tOSU beat them twice?
  • Michigan State - Things only get harder this week.
  • Nebraska - Good win at home.
  • Indiana - Too many injuries.
  • Rutgers - They are finding their level in the conference.
  • Northwestern - Played a competitive game against a good team.

Yes- Stroud was only 13/22 for 58% completion rate. That’s by far his worst ever.

And he threw that one deep pick which was so unlike him. He forced a throw into double coverage. He actually looked human.

I wouldn’t worry too much though.  Even the best QBs have off days. They still put up 49 in 3 Quarters.

And if you were counting, Rutgers was called for PI on at least 4 Passes- which all were very catchable balls sans the aggressive interference.  Add those in and his completion rate is over 70%.  I honestly think that was an intentional part of Rutgers game plan.  Why not?  If you can’t cover them just prevent them from running their routes.  See how much you can get away with.

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

I hope you are right. But the week before, he appeared be a little off also. I hope it is not a trend and he gets back to his norms. We'll see.

1. Ohio State should be AP poll #1 as well.  The Buckeyes have not looked vulnerable this year unlike Alabama and Georgia.  The fact that most of the #1 votes will go to the two SEC teams kind of pisses me off.  Yes, Ohio State still sucks irregardless of their ranking.
I completely understood what you meant here. If the situation were reversed I wouldn't really want Michigan to be #1 but at the same time I'd be concerned that the B1G team was not getting the same benefit of the doubt as the SEC teams.

man I find it hilarious when Ohio State fans bag on or worry about CJ Stroud. He's maybe the best QB in all of CFB. Certainly tops in the B1G.

All I have to say is.....

when he's having a good day, he's possibly the most accurate passer in the NCAA

yeah, his ball placement is just next level. that's an NFL QB, for sure. And he hasn't been playing with his #1 target and the best WR in America- JSN- all-season.

I'm trying to make sure I'm not biased in evaluating the top three so here are the 15 opponents they have defeated ranked by current Sagrin ranking:

  • #15 Notre Dame by 11 by tOSU
  • #31 Wisconsin by 31 by tOSU
  • #34 Maryland by 7 by M
  • #36 Iowa by 13 by M
  • #38 Purdue by 4 by PSU on the road
  • #41 Auburn by 29 by PSU on the road
  • #69 Toledo by 56 by tOSU
  • #85 Northwestern by 10 by PSU
  • #92 CMU by 19 by PSU
  • #101 Rutgers by 39 by tOSU
  • #109 ArSt by 33 by tOSU
  • #122 OhioU by 36 by PSU
  • #144 CoSt by 44 by M
  • #160 UCONN by 59 by M
  • #175 Hawaii by 46 by M
I think that makes it pretty clear for now, tOSU then M then PSU.

My prior rankings are in parentheses in chronological order from most recent at L to preseason at R:

  • Ohio State (1,2,1,1,1), The Buckeyes looked pretty "meh" and won by 39.
  • Michigan (3,3,2,2,2), At this point they look better than PSU and not quite as good as tOSU so here they are.
  • Penn State (2,1,3,4,4), The last two weeks PSU has struggled WAY too much with CMU and only beat NU by 10.  They are still #3 because nobody else can claim it but this is a trend and that is becoming concerning.
  • Minnesota (4,4,5,6,8), I have no idea who to put at #4.  A lot of voters here went with Maryland and their close loss to Michigan looks good but they just beat MSU far less impressively at home than Minnesota did on the road last week.  Minnesota, of course, just lost to Purdue, and Purdue recently struggled with with perennial Bottom-10 member FA(not I) U.  Illinois looked great in Madison but they also lost to Indiana.  None of these teams seem like #4 so I'll keep Minnesota here for now on the theory that maybe they just had an off day against Purdue?
  • Maryland (5,8,8,9,12), A win in October!  In 2021 the Terps hit October at 4-0 and almost ranked then lost three straight and six of seven en-route to a 6-6 finish.  This year they won their first October game and now prepare to host . . .
  • Purdue (9,7,7,7,7), After their loss to the Orange and near-loss to FA(not I) U, I pretty much left them for dead (#9 last week) so where did this come from?  Who knows but if they can back it up with a win at Maryland they'll probably become the favorite in the B1G-W.
  • Illinois (11,10,10,13,9), That three point loss in Bloomington continues to mystify.
  • Iowa (7,11,11,8,6), I still don't know what to think of Iowa.  Their defense is so good that they kept it close with Michigan and are a credible threat to upset anyone including tOSU in Columbus in a couple weeks.  Conversely, their offense is so bad that anyone is a credible threat to beat them and they could easily lose at home to Northwestern the week after playing in Columbus.
  • Wisconsin (6,5,6,3,3), Wow, I didn't see a mid-season coaching change coming in Madison of all places.  The Badgers now face a two-game road swing against what appear to be two of the B1G's worst teams (NU, MSU).  If they win those two they'll be VERY much in the B1G-W race when Purdue visits on 10/22.
  • Michigan State (8,6,4,5,5), The Spartans weren't even competitive in their three-straight losses and their prior opponents were MAC teams whose only wins came over St. Francis, Ball State, and New Hampshire.  Now they get to host the Buckeyes who dropped 49 points on them last year . . . in the first half.
  • Rutgers (10,9,9,10,13), The Scarlet Knights had a pretty good OOC with two road wins including one over a P5 opponent.  They are now 3-2 with a home stand against two teams behind them on this list over the next three weeks.  They REALLY need to sweep the Cornhuskers and Hoosiers to get to 5-2 if they want a decent chance to go bowling.
  • Nebraska (13,14,14,14,14), Crawling out of the cellar one win at a time.  Last week they beat Indiana so I've moved them ahead of the Hoosiers.  This week they play Rutgers . . .
  • Indiana (12,12,12,12,10), How on earth did this team manage to beat Illinois?
  • Northwestern (14,13,13,11,11), They looked much better than expected against the Nittany Lions but this is still a 1-4 team that lost to Dook, a bad MAC School, and an FCS opponent.  That said this is an even year and next up for the Wildcats are a group of Badgers sans their HC, PC.  Would anyone really be shocked if the Wildcats reeled off three straight wins (vs UW, @UMD, @ IA) and headed into Columbus in early November in serious B1G-W contention?
