Today was such a shitshow for the league, that I'm not quite sure how to rank the middling teams. Here's my best shot at it. With Michigan being off, I got to watch most of the games.

1. Ohio State - Dominating bad teams is more than the rest of the league can say....
2. Wisconsin - Probably the best team in the West by default.
3. Michigan - We'll know a lot more next weekend of course.
4. Iowa - As ugly as the game was, I give them credit for winning it.
5. Penn State - Pittsburgh is not a very good team, and this game shouldn't have been close even considering the weather. Still better than the rest, though.
6. Nebraska - I hesitate to put them this high, but Northern Illinois is usually one of the best MAC teams.
7. Michigan State - Still no offense and good defense. Looks like the kicking game could be an issue, though.
8. Maryland - Temple is decent to be fair, and the Syracuse win might still look good in the end, but today shows their offense isn't really that great.
9. Northwestern - Another ugly win and that Stanford loss looks uglier by the week.
10. Minnesota - Nearly choked with two awful non-offensive TDs allowed late but pulled out of their ass at the end.
11. Indiana - No bad losses to bad teams yet at least....
12. Purdue - No shame in losing to TCU, but that Nevada loss keeps looking worse.
13. Illinois - Eastern Michigan isn't awful, but today goes to show
14. Rutgers - Massachusetts might go winless with the way they're playing so I have no confidence Rutgers will win another game, even after today.

1. (1) (1) (2) Ohio State - Still dominant.
2. (2) (4) (8) Wisconsin - Didn't do much Saturday.
3. (2) (1) Michigan - Didn't do much Saturday.
4. (4) (3) (7) Penn State - Umm, I guess that was a win.
5. (6) (6) (9) Iowa - Um, they sort of won, over a good opponent.
6. (5) (5) (5) Michigan State - While they lost, the refs missed a leverage call on the final play, after using replay to correct their miss on the 2nd last play. Not fair.
7. (9) (7) (4) Northwestern - A quality win over a decent opponent.
8. (7) (9) (12) Maryland - Depressive looking loss to Temple; they have started out strong and faded before.
9. (8) (8) (13) Illinois - Back to their old ugly ways.
10. (10) (11) (3) Nebraska - They are what they are - bugeaters
11. (11) (12) (6) Minnesota - Yet, another close win.
12. (12) (13) (10) Indiana - Wiped out
13. (13) (14) (11) Purdue - Epic failure.
14. (14) (10) (14) Rutgers - Didn't lose.

1. Wisconsin: Almost put OSU here, but that would be recency bias, as no matter how good OSU has been, Wisconsin has been better.  But the real test is coming.

2. Ohio State: OSU channeled their inner Wisconsin in rushing for over 300 yards on the road.  It wasn't Fields best game, but OSU can run and play defense, and these two have been the clear top two teams over three weeks.

3. Iowa: Not going to downgrade them for getting a rivalry win on the road.  But they were a bit punchless, which will be tough against some teams that play defense.

4. Michigan: It's crap or get off the pot time for the Wolverines.  They have to hope they've got some things figured out on offense to take to Madison.

5. Michigan State: Getting tough here.  MSU should have won their game, at least.  But man, their inability to score persists.

6. Penn State: Not exactly an awe-inspiring effort, getting outgained by Pitt at home. There's a theme in the B1G this year, and that's teams that can't play offense.

7. Maryland: Well, they beat Syracuse by more than Clemson did, at least.

8. Nebraska: Put together a pretty good game, finally.  May be primed to move up.

9. Minnesota: Not exactly looking strong.  Will they crumble when finally playing a good team?

10. Northwestern: Stanford looks straight up awful, so not sure what to make of NW.

11. Purdue: Pretty punchless, but they were missing their quarterback.

12. Indiana: They wanted to be Buster Douglas.  They were - old, fat Buster Douglas.

13. Illinois: So close to being undefeated.

14. Rutgers: Rutgers.

The bullet train that is Ohio State and the freight train that is Wisconsin are on collision course to meet at Indy in December.  I see no legit challenger to OSU and I’m not sure Iowa has the horses to pull off the win in Madtown.

1 Ohio State - only blemish is their backups getting pushed around a little bit by FAU in the opener
2 Penn State - Elite D, gutted out a tough win vs in state rival
3 Wisconsin - back to being Wisconsin
4 Iowa - Gutting out the CyHawk win that often eludes them
5 Michigan - It isn't going to be the Wolverines
.
6 Maryland - tough to tell if history repeats, or if Temple just has their number
7 Michigan St - does Herm Edwards have Sparty's number?
8 Nebraska - bounced back by knocking off perennial Mac power... but Colorado lost to Air Force, making that loss look worse.
9 Northwestern - starting to round into form just in time for their Big Ten season opener
10 Minnesota - undefeated, but all close wins vs mid majors
.
11 Purdue - they had Drew Brees
12 Indiana - hopefully they remembered to update their media guide photo
13 Illinois - actually lost to the Fighting EMUs
14 Rutgers - it will be interesting to see how they fare vs BC, who just got smoked by Kansas

1. Ohio State - No question at this point.

2. Michigan - Did not play and rightly moved up

3.  Iowa - Good rivalry win.

4.  Wisconsin - They keep moving up.

5.  Michigan State - I know they lost, but I have never seen a team so dominant end up losing.  If they played again, I'd pick MSU by 2 TDs.

6.  Maryland - I put them above Penn State because I believe they will BEAT Penn State in two weeks.  Their mistake is typical -- they shouldn't have looked past Temple to Penn State.

7.  Penn State - Against Pitt, the offensive line had one of their worst performances in years.  The defensive ends were unable to pressure Pitt's QB as well.  YGM went the entire game without a STAT.  When given time, Clifford overthrew every single deep ball.  The massive substitutions of players is stopping PSU from getting any type of offensive rhythm.  A hallmark of PSU under Franklin has been the improvement from game to game.  They will certainly need it!

8.  Nebraska - Took care of business

9.  Northwestern - Trademark Northwestern -- they keep improving every single game.

10.  Minnesota - Undefeated.  I feel like they should be higher...

11.  Purdue - No clue if they are better than Indiana or not..

12.  Indiana

13.  Illinois - I thought I had them too low last week.  Silly me.

14.  Rutgers

1. Ohio State - Looking good in all phases of the game
2. Wisconsin - Here by default. We'll know more after this weekend

--

3. Iowa - Best win of the next four.
4. Michigan - Good week for a bye to prepare for the Badgers.
5. Penn State - Have not looked impressive so far.
6. Michigan State - Great Defense, offense back to looking like typical MSU

--

7. Northwestern - That loss to Stanford is looking worse
8. Nebraska - Good game against a MAC school. We'll see how they do against real teams soon.
9. Minnesota - Playing this sloppy will come back to haunt them against better competition.
10. Maryland - Deja vu all over again.
11. Indiana - Look helpless against tOSU.
12. Purdue - The loss to Nevada is looking worse.
13. Illinois - Would they be in the top tier of MAC schools?
14. Rutgers - Maybe football is not their thing.

  • Ohio State - 1,1,1 - Did pretty much what they were expected to do.
  • Wisconsin - 2,4,3 - We'll find out a lot more next game.
  • Penn State - 3,3,4 - It was a rivalry game but that is concerning.
  • Michigan - 4,2,2 - We'll find out a lot more next game.
  • Iowa - 6,5,6 - Looking good so far!
  • Nebraska - 9,6,8 - Looked great but that Colorado loss now looks worse.
  • Michigan State - 7,7,9 - The offense appears to be better than last year but that isn't saying much.
  • Maryland - 5,8,11 - I'm trying not to overreact so only down a few spots.
  • Northwestern - 10,9,7 - solid win.
  • Minnesota - 8,13,10 - At least they won.
  • Indiana - 13,12,12 - Pretty much as expected.
  • Purdue - 11,10,5 - Ouch.
  • Illinois - 12,11,13 - Ugly.
  • Rutgers - 14,14,14 - Still Rutgers.

Help.  When I copy/paste from last week's rankings the font size goes wacky.  How do I fix that?

Edit:  Nevermind, I found it.
