Chip Kelly WAS a good coach at Oregon, but the college version 2.0 of him is not for a few reasons:
His offense is longer innovative or unique, most every DC in the nation sees a variant of what he used to run at Oregon on a semi regular basis or has tons of tape and info on how to prepare for it.
Yes, he had advantages recruiting at Oregon but he still knew exactly what type of players to target for his scheme and typically developed them well enough. At UCLA because of his stubbornness in not hiring assistants he doesn't have much of a prior relationship with, he doesn't have any solid recruiters on his staff which is why UCLA hasn't been tearing it up on the recruiting trail. He'll still get a couple big fish here and there but he'll never build a roster like he had at Oregon.
