Average Number of Undefeateds by Week

We're at 13, just above the mean of 12.  We should be at 2-3 by the time of the final FF selections.

This includes non-P5s.

I think the AAC has 3, so that'll get trimmed.  San Diego State is looking pretty, MWC doesn't look very good this year.  I think they get Boise State this week, who while usually the stiffest competition, looks somewhat unremarkable this year.

What happens if Navy is undefeated going into Army week?

The playoff selection committee is required to make their selections before that game takes place.

Obviously an undefeated service academy would, at the very least, find themselves on the bubble, after receiving their Patriotic bump.

But they can't really put them in, since they might lose their rivalry game.

I looked at the top ten after week 6 last season.  The Final Four were all in the top five.  Several of the others faded rather badly from that point.

If we go back another year, same kind of thing except Oklahoma had just lost and dropped from 10 to 19.

The odds are pretty good that the FF is all in the Top Ten right now, along with 4-5 teams about to fade out.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Navy still has UCF at home, plus trips to Houston and Notre Dame, then likely USF in the AAC title game, if they get through all of those other 3 undefeated.

And if they do that, that's not enough to deserve a CFP spot unless there are only 2 loss P5 teams to choose from, but I think it is enough that they'd deserve the Group of 5 spot even with a loss to Army.  Who else would deserve it?  They'd have beaten UCF and USF, and San Diego State, even undefeated, would still not have as good a resume as a Navy team that wins all of those games, but loses to Army.

I concede that it's not a likely scenario, but it's far from impossible.

Nobody gets more credit for beating bad teams than Navy, so if they did win a handful of halfway decent games they would certainly get their fair share of hype.

Yet the rules are seemingly set up to automatically eliminate them from contention, even if they beat every team by 100.

I'm just saying that even if it did happen, I don't think it's much of a conundrum.  That with a win they STILL wouldn't deserve a CFP bid most likely (it would take a number of 2 loss P5 teams being in the mix) and with a loss, I still would think they were the most deserving Go5 team for that NY6 bid.

Going to post the updated thread tonight or tomorrow, but one intersting thing this early is that there were no undeafeated who played each other last week and we only have one possible game left between 2 until Thanksgiving (Cental Florida and Navy)

The number of undefeateds keep dropping, and is under norm right now.
