Army-Navy Game

A lot of fake pomp around the game, but I still enjoy it.

Go Army! Beat Navy!

Gotta be a Navy fan today, in recognition of those fine young men who cruised my son to where he needed to be.

The only family I have in the military are in the Air Force, so I don't have any reason to prefer one over the other, but from childhood, I've preferred Navy.

We had a thread about this a long time ago - which side you prefer in rivalries that have nothing to do with your teams.  Duke-UNC, UM-OSU, etc.
I pull for Navy, and I don't know why.

I have 2 Army, and one Air Force, but that has nothing to do with it for me.  Like you said, I just started preferring Army at a young age, for no real reason, and stuck with it.

I usually root for the better team because of my option preference is boosted by having more singular good option teams (i.e. a 10-2 and 6-6 seems somehow better than 9-3 and 7-5). That means it's usually Navy though most of my life. Today that's the case because Army can't bowl.

Anyway, Army just scored on a beauty of a counter read.

(only family tie is Marines, and I never had the chance to gage his rooting interest in the matter)

Somebody who graduated from USNA told me the football players were reviled and hated on campus because they get special perks.

He said they avoid some annoying details and classes so they can "practice" or attend games etc.  He also said they were about 80% Marine option.  He was Navy, Lt. Cmdr at the time.

At least they're not treated like Citadel football players for it.

But yeah, athletes treated well everywhere.

The Marine officer ranks of course correspond to Army office ranks, which means they are confusing with Navy ranks.

2nd Lieutenant   - Ensign
1st Lieutenant  -   Lieutenant JG
Captain            -   Lieutenant
Major               -   Lt. Commander
Lt. Colonel        -  Commander
Colonel             -  Captain

So, at a mixed base, it can get confusing when answered the phone.  A Captain in the Navy is somebody, and in the Corps is just someone who has been around a few years without messing up too badly.

Was there a more disappointing team in America this year than Army?  It looked like Michigan was the only loss on their schedule, they took UM to OT, but lost, but then proceeded to go 5-8.
