The Longhorns have also moved into a tie for 9th place all-time in #1 appearances.  Texas and Georgia each have 54 appearances at #1.
It appears that Texas' stay at 9th all-time in appearances at #1 will be only a week. Georgia is likely to move into #1 and thus back to ninth alone in all-time appearances at #1.

#1 Appearances:
Texas' tie with Georgia for 9th all time only lasted one week. Georgia is back in 9th alone with 55 and Texas is 10th with 54.

Top-5 appearances:
Ohio State now has a two appearance lead on #2 Bama: 469-467. Texas remains tied with Nebraska for 6th with 296.

Top-10 appearances:
Nothing to note.

Total appearances:
No changes but the 2nd, 3rd, 8th, and 9th most frequently ranked teams (Michigan, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Penn State respectively) remain unranked so all the others are gaining relative to them.

Streaks:
Alabama is up to 301 consecutive appearances and needs 47 more to catch Nebraska (1981-2002) for the longest streak of all time.

Probably nobody outside of @rolltidefan and I are paying attention to it but the race for the most top-5 appearances is interesting.

Bama is #6 and #4 is playing #5 so the Tide are likely in the top-5 with a win but . . .

#6 Alabama is at #14 Tennessee and #4 Ohio State is at #5 Indiana.

The Tide and Buckeyes are both favored this weekend but both by single digits as both have road games against ranked opponents so it is very possible that both, either, or neither will be top-5 next week.

I have a paper clipping from an 80s sporting news that showed the Vols were a true blue blood

Big changes this week as five of the top-7 lost on the same day for the first time ever.

Let's start with the streak that @FearlessF wants to see end:

Alabama lost and dropped to #13 but they remain ranked for the 303rd consecutive week. That, of course, is the second longest streak ever and the Tide need 45 more consecutive appearances to catch Nebraska's streak from 1981-2002.

#1:
Miami moved up two spots and makes their 69th appearance at #1. That is the 8th most appearances at #1. If Miami remains #1 one more week they will catch Nebraska for 7th. If they remain #1 for three more weeks they will catch FSU for 6th. After that it would take more than a year to move up further.

Top-5:
Ohio State now leads Alabama 470-467 for most top-5 appearances.

Top-10:
No changes.

Total appearances:
What is unusual here is that four of the ten most frequently ranked teams are currently unranked which means that they are being gained on, here are the ten most frequently ranked teams with their current ranking:

  • 1,024 Ohio State, 3
  • 946 Michigan, unranked no votes
  • 925 Oklahoma, unranked no votes
  • 915 Notre Dame, 4
  • 915 Alabama, 13
  • 838 USC, 16
  • 814 Texas, 19
  • 733 Nebraska, unranked no votes
  • 721 Penn State, unranked no votes
  • 703 Georgia 5

I wonder what the shortest time interval for being ranked Number 1 could be.  Maybe several are tied for one week.  I know at least one has that.

Four teams (Arkansas, Boston College, North Carolina, and Wisconsin) have each been ranked #1 exactly once so they each obviously have a one week stay. Plenty of others have as well including the last two winners of the Georgia/Alabama game.

outside of a misprint/correction, i image 1 week is shortest, with a lot of teams tied for that.
