AP Poll Trivia and minutae 2026 midseasonish update
« on: October 26, 2026, 09:30:06 AM »
The October 25, 2026 AP Poll was the 1,276th AP Poll ever and the 9th of 2026. Please correct me if I am mistaken but I believe there will be seven more this year for a total of 16 this year, remaining 2026 polls:

  • 11/1 after the Halloween games this weekend.
  • 11/8 after the 11/7 games
  • 11/15 after the 11/14 games
  • 11/22 after the 11/21 games
  • 11/29 after the final regular season games on 11/28.
  • 11/6 after the CCGs
  • Final Poll after the bowls/CFP.

Let's start with streaks because I know that @rolltidefan and @FearlessF are keeping an eye on this. Active appearance streaks:
  • 304 Bama (2008-2026), 2nd all-time 44 down on Nebraska's streak of 348 from 1980-2001.
  • 157 Georgia (2017-2026), 9th all-time
  • 105 Ohio State (2020-2026), 20th all-time
  • 65 Notre Dame (2022-2026), 57th all-time
  • 59 Ole Miss (2023-2026), 68th all-time
  • 43 Miami, FL (2024-2026), 99th all-time
  • 38 Indiana (2024-2026), 123rd all-time
No other current streaks started before the 2025 season.

Top-10 appearance active streaks:
  • 86 Ohio State (2021-2026), 5th all-time
  • 21 Indiana (2025-2026), 119th all-time
  • 20 Georgia (2025-2026), 126th all-time
  • 16 Notre Dame (2025-2026), 174th all-time
  • 11 Mismi, FL (2025-2026), 282nd all-time
No other current top-10 streaks started before the 2026 season.

No current top-5 streaks started prior to this season.

Hopefully, a win at home over Washington will put Nebraska in next weeks poll

and yet it says #8 - Canes on the road to see Belichick hopefully looking ahead to the showdown with the Domers the following week.

Sorry for the slight. I can't reformat the numbered list to show two #7s.

that's my list, and why I defend Nebraska's inclusion in the club
500 top-10s is solid

Let's start with streaks because I know that @rolltidefan and @FearlessF are keeping an eye on this. Active appearance streaks:
  • 304 Bama (2008-2026), 2nd all-time 44 down on Nebraska's streak of 348 from 1980-2001.
So lets look closer at this.  Alabama is 6-2 and #10 in this week's poll.  The losses aren't terrible, by 3 at home to #3 Georgia and by 16 on the road to #16 Tennessee.
  • Alabama is off Halloween weekend so they will obviously be ranked next week which will bring their streak to 305 or 43 down on Nebraska's record.
  • On November 7 Alabama plays at #15 LSU.  This is a good news / bad news situation.  Losing wouldn't hurt them all that badly since it is a road game against a top-15 team but the bad news is that losing is a pretty realistic possibility.  I think the streak will extend to 306 or 42 down on the record even if Bama loses badly at LSU.
  • On November 14 Alabama plays at Vanderbilt.  The commodores are winless in the SEC and most of the losses haven't been close so, barring a miraculous upset, the Tide will win and extend their streak to 307 or 41 down on the record.
  • On November 21 Alabama exercises this year's version of the SEC's time-honored tradition of having a cupcake prior to a big rivalry game.  They host Chattanooga so, barring a miraculous upset, the Tide will win and extend their streak to 308 or 40 down on the record.
  • On November 28 Alabama hosts Auburn.  Auburn, of course, has the big upset of Georgia in Athens but other than that they have pretty much looked like hot garbage this year.  Additionally, there is a decent chance that even if Alabama loses both the LSU and Auburn games, they'd still be ranked in the November 29 Poll at 8-4.  For comparison, Iowa was #23 at 8-4 in the poll immediately prior to the CCGs last year.  Thus, I expect that Alabama's streak will extend to 309 with the November 29 poll.
  • Whether or not Alabama plays in the SECCG on December 5, if they are ranked on 11/29 (and I think they will be, see last bullet), then they'll be ranked on December 6.  Thus, I expect that Alabama's streak will extend to 310 or 38 shy of the record with the release of the December 6 AP Poll.
  • IMHO, the next poll that Alabama could realistically miss would be the 2026 final poll and that would require either a shocking upset or losses to LSU, Auburn, and in their bowl.  Barring that, the Tide will be ranked for the 311th consecutive week in the 2026 final poll, leaving them 37 shy of Nebraska's record.

There are 16 or 17 AP Polls each season (it varies I think based on the number of Saturdays in September, October, and November).  So if Alabama remains ranked:
  • They will be at 311 consecutive weeks at the end of 2026.
  • They will be at either 327 or 328 at the end of 2027.
  • They will be at 343-345 at the end of 2028.
If Alabama remains ranked continuously, they will enter the 2029 season needing between 3-5 more consecutive appearances to catch Nebraska's record.  The preseason and week-1 appearances will be more-or-less guaranteed.  Per a quick google, the Tide visit Notre Dame in week-2 of the 2029 season.  That is obviously a game that they could lose but it also would be a not too damaging loss in that they'd probably be ranked even with a loss in South Bend so the week-2 ranking is also more-or-less guaranteed.

"The Tide don't lose in Baton Rouge."

So their old saying says.

They say it like it rhymes.

It doesn't.

Bammers are idiots.
