These days most bowl games obviously are assuming less and less "importance" in terms of winning, in my view.  Team A has critical opt outs and Team B does not, and wins.  What does that mean, to anything?  Team B got to try out next year's players in a "real game" (of sorts).

In a couple years, this will be even more the case.  Playing next year's starters could win a game or two next year.

I think a chance to win an extra game next season is more important than winning a minor bowl game, yes, though my point is arguable on the merits.  For teams like Purdue, a lot of outcomes are within one score and a slight tilt is the difference between 10-2 and 7-5.

Frankly, as of this moment, I'll be surprised if Purdue keeps it within 2 touchdowns.

We still don't have word on what our QB will do, and if he opts into the draft, he could opt not to play.  Of course, he doesn't have to make a decision to enter the draft until after the bowl, I think.

Also, if Purdue has a full roster, there's always that.  About 14 or 15 of our starting 22 are really pretty good.  But with only 70 scholly players, LSU has at times lacked the depth to play their A-game for 4 quarters.  All Purdue has to do is make a game of it into the second half (not a hard feat since LSU has been a poor first-half team) and they can make things tough on the Tigers just by rotating in fresh bodies.

Update on Purdue:

QB Aidan O'Connell, TE Payne Durham, WR Charlie Jones and LB Jalen Graham all did not practice.

Jaken Graham looks to be academically disqualified.  That's a big hurt as he's the best player on defense.  Combine that with Trice not playing....not good.

There is also another unnamed defensive player that needs to make it through finals week, or else could face academic disqualification.

Some cool news...Drew Brees is joining the Purdue coaching staff for the Citrus Bowl.  Presumably to coach QBs.

Jayden Daniels would have to be crazy declare for the draft. But the Richardson kid at Florida just did, so I guess most of these kids think they are way better than they actually are.

That is really cool. I bet he'd be a hell of a coach if he ever got into it full-time.

What kind of contract does a 7th rounder get these days?  $2 million a year?

Due to the NIL + xfer options rather than just leaving for the NFL, this is said to be a very thin QB class, and several projections have Daniels as the 5th QB taken this year, should he leave.  It's not projected to be so thin other years, in which case--without improvement--he wouldn't be that high in the pecking order.  If he leaves, that's why.  Potentially he can go higher now than he will in the future.

See above.

The 5th QB isn't going to be a 7th rounder.

NFL Draft Salaries: How Much Do 4th-7th Round Picks Make? | Heavy.com

They get around $600,000 per year.  A 5th rounder gets about a mil per year.

Now, imagine you're a college QB with no interest in getting a degree, but you can take the next step and realistically earn $600,000 x 4 over four years ...

After that, your options become rather limited of course.

so, if you can move up a round or two, it's an easy decision
