Taylor is the best RB to ever play in Madison. It's tough between him and Gordon, but I'm going with Taylor.

Sorry Ron.

Yeah, I agree Taylor would get more notice if he were playing at say Northwestern and doing the same things.  By "workmanlike", I mean he is steady and not gaudy.  He goes out and gets "it" done with relatively few highlights on SC.  (I think, I rarely watch SC, I'm sure they feature his runs often enough, but as OAM suggests, he's at Wisconsin, it's expected).

Compare that with Joe Burrow who was added to an historically challenged offense at LSU and lit it up.

As much as anything, for me, this is why I don't particularly care about the award.  I have no clue who the "most outstanding player" would be.  It could be some defensive end somewhere.

I mean, Taylor has highlights. Maybe a few less than his first year (I need some of the advanced run stats that are harder to find).

I love him as a back, and he's been really transcendent at points. He's just not quite at the level he was, and it's not like we haven't seen UW backs match or take one extra step forward as juniors. Wouldn't mind seeing him in NY, but I'd have young, Burrow, Hubbard and at least one WR ahead of him.

I'd agree with this, but say Gordon's Jr season was better than this one, though I might take last year's Taylor season, even though the team record was worse.

I'd agree.

Gordon isn't quite elite in the NFL but he's close to it. I feel like Taylor will be an elite RB in the NFL on the level of Zeke or Gurley (before injury) or Saquon.

obviously, Taylor would be getting more hype if there wasn't a loss to Illinois

It strikes me that we live in a time of "elite running backs".  That may hurt the breed, in terms of recognition, especially if they might at times be perceived as "System Running Backs".

Taylor is not a system running back. That label is more reserved for guys like PJ Hill.

He is perceived as that, rightly or wrongly, a product of the Wisconsin scheme.

No question he is the product of the Wisconsin scheme. He's just one of the very best products of that scheme, including, recently, Ball and Gordon, who each were legitimately among the top handful of CFB running backs. Once upon a time, USC was "tailback U."
Respectfully, if USC RBs could win the Heisman Trophy, why can't Badger RBs?
Part of it is the brand: USC is a bigger brand than Wisconsin. Part of it is the era; it's the QB era. Part of it is luck; only one player per year can win the Heisman. Marcus Mariota was a great college football player (Gordon came in second). So were RGIII and Andrew Luck (Ball was fourth that year). And yeah, there's nothing that says Taylor is better than a couple of the QBs getting the publicity ahead of him now.
And as Badger fans, of course we think our guy--one of the best to play the position in Wisconsin history--deserves a little more attention than he gets. To be fair, not fumbling at a key moment against Illinois would have helped.
For what it's worth, I think Gordon is the most NFL-ready back Wisconsin has produced (he had better ball protection than JT), and I think Dayne is the greatest college back in Wisconsin history, but I put JT at second on the NFL-ready list, and maybe second on the college back list (based on his three years of production for the Badgers), maybe third, again because of the turnovers, behind Gordon.

has the U of Wisconsin athletic department put on a serious campaign to promote Taylor?  Does Taylor do enough interviews?

Has Chryst and the O-coordinator done enough to showcase his talents?

how many receptions?  can he throw a decent halfback pass?  and other trick plays that capture the imagination of the audience?  Punt returns, KO returns?

usually the Hypesman winner has had at least one if not a few big time highlight plays

I watched that on TV from a hotel room in Houston.  I was there for an International Baccalaureate Organization workshop, and another OU fan and I slipped out of our meeting to watch the game.  That loss ended an OU winning streak of 20 games, tied for 4th-longest in school history.
We haven't had one that long since.  A couple of 14-game streaks is all.

I was lucky enough to be in the stands- in the endzone Crouch ran in to.
if you remember, Stoops tried a similar play earlier in the game
