So you're not attending anymore shows where performers are your age ?

With a lot of these guys it's amazing how quickly it hits.  I saw one of the best shows and one of the worst within about 3 years of each other, and both were Clapton.

1997.  That is a year I have not heard in a long, long time.

My kids were 11 and 9, a pretty good age overall.  I was working of course.  My job at that point was "OK" as I recall.  I still had a good boss which helped, until he left.  We had some nice vacations, I don't recall when and where, just generally.  One of the best was going to a dude ranch in WY, that was really nice.

That was year two of the Donnan era at UGA, and was the best of that era.  They got clobbered at Tenn and lost to Auburn at home.  They had Mike Bobo at QB and Hines Ward and Robert Edwards and Champ Bailey, so they had some talent.

Donnan was a boring coach though, and his next years led to his dismissal due to mediocrity and losing to the main rivals.

1997 - a busy time in my life

Obviously Husker football was at its pinnacle.  I had attended the Husker bowl games after the 93, 94, & 95 seasons, so I didn't go to the Orange Bowl vs Tennessee.

My career was really taking off.  But, I was working on-site out of town.  Watched the Flea-kicker vs Mizzou in a hotel room.

My daughters were 1 and 3.  My wife wasn't happy about me being on the road out of town with work.  I started my current job to be able to stay home and hopefully save my marriage.  It's 20 years later and I've been able to raise my daughters and be a decent Father.

December of 97 was my first time time on the internet.  I found college football fan boards at CNN/SI.  Was looking to network with other Husker fans.   It was fabulous.  I was met by the Notorious King of Trash and passionate arrogant Michigan fans.  Good times.  Can't imagine what my life would be like without the friendships I've found on these message boards.

It's not really a shock that my years have sort of merged into a vague notional recounting of events.

Wife and I went to the Improv to see Joel McHale last night. Decent show, and he was funny, but I wasn't blown away.

Got home fired up the smoker with 16# of pork shoulder... Taking it to a birthday party today, so I'll miss the middle slate of games.

But at least I'll be able to catch Purdue this morning.

It's been a long time since 1997.  I graduated high school, then went off to college.
Huh. Thought you were a bit older. I’m a 98er. Been a long time since high school. The world looks very different wouldn’t ya say?

So, if I read it write, sounds like The Fighting Lovies punched PSU in the mouth last night, ran out of gas and got the Franklin Treatment in the 4th quarter (35 points)?
I only watched a little of the game but I was checking scores and it was even worse than that.  36 minutes into the game the Illini were ahead 24-21.  Then Penn State scored SIX unanswered TD's in a span of 23:36 to win by a quite respectable 63-24.
In assessing PSU's performance I'm not sure if I should credit them for being able to score 42 points rapidly or ding them for needing a late avalanche to achieve a respectable win over the Illini.
