I thought they ran a 3-4 with 4 good LBS - Rice, Hardy, Howard, and Havlicek Holecek?  The white guy.

Rice lined up pretty exclusively at DE and almost never dropped into coverage. Illinois had a weird position called RLB at that time, so technically he was listed as an LB but he really played DE - kinda like a TJ Watt-type guy.

Yeah, a lot of teams have that position now.  Buck, edge, whatever the hell.  Idk, if the player is closer to 240 than he is to 270, he's a LB to me, lol.

For some reason, it reminds me of Jevon Kearse being a S in HS, LB in college, and a DE in the NFL.

He was a Morton recruit, and he was a CB (and a great return man).

He played S in the NFL, during his later years, when his speed went down.

You are absolved.

well for Safeties you could say Ed Reed,Roy Williams,Sean Tayor,Troy Polamalu, Mike Doss,Phillip Darren Buchanon but all of them seem to straddle '98-'02.So best years were mostly in this century we can try:

Tyrone Carter from Minnesota, he was a first-team All-American in 1998, and a consensus first-team All-American in 1999. Won the 1999 Jim Thorpe Award for best defensive back in college football, and was a finalist for the 1999 Bronko Nagurski Trophy.

Deon Grant - played for the Volunteers from 1997 to 1999. He was selected as a consensus first-team All-American in 1999 after he tied for the NCAA lead with nine interceptions for 167 return yards. He finished the 1999 season with 69 tackles and eight pass breakups. He had two picks in three different games and earned SEC Defensive Player of the week after intercepting three passes versus Auburn. His leaping interception in UT's overtime win over Florida in 1998 was a crucial play in the Vols' march to the BCS National Championship that season

Roy Williams was definitely more of a 2000s player than a 90s player I'd say.

yeah so were Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, and Troy P.

that 2000s team gonna be lit at safety.

Sean Taylor is the best safety I've ever seen play the game of football, no disrespect to anyone else.
