ND sucked in the mid-80s, including the infamous 58-7 loss @ Miami (under the HS HC).
Yeah, but if you're really looking for a way to get under an ND fan's skin, remind them that in 1989, down 17-10 in the third quarter, they gave up a 3rd and 43 conversion to Miami. Miami ended up scoring a TD on that drive, burying ND's national title hopes.

Ehhh....Cleveland Gary had a TD.  And Major Harris got hurt on the 3rd play.  But I get what you're saying.
Yes, and it wasn't just one bad call and the game against WVU. They beat (final AP rankings):

#7 USC
#5 West Virginia
#4 Michigan, and
#2 Miami (and there were bad calls to go around in that game, not just the phantom fumble (which, for the record, was a bad call)--that was football at the time; see the Phantom Clip noted above.) :-)

There were a (very) few elite level defensive players.

this guy
He worked with my mom for the State back in the 90s and I got to meet him and hang out a couple of times.  Incredibly nice guy, you'd never know how badly he terrorized offenses back in the day.

Okay, let's open it up to no more than 3 selections per poster.

OK but can we agree we've certainly already reached our quota of Iowa players?

It's up to you guys.  We won't produce an all-time best all-decade team, but it'll be really great and it'll be ours.  So far, it's beautiful.

Kind of blown away Anthony Carter hasn't gotten a mention...

Well I'm trying my best to pick the best players for an all-decade team, not just stock it with homer picks.

Otherwise you jackwagons would already be desperately searching the internet for who the eff Rob Moerschell is.

I think we can have a blend of homerish, qualified guys.

Iowa sort of peaked in the 80s, reaching the top 10 in 5 of 6 seasons under Fry.  Also, this is incredibly low-stakes, lol.

I think Sims and Gray belong.  Texas' early 80s defenses were no joke.
