Day said Ewers wasn't going to play, so McCord and Miller are the only guys they plan to play, though Stroud is available on an emergency basis.

He might get a few snaps, no?  How many backups do they have available now?
Stroud is the starter, but the backups are 5* true freshman Kyle McCord and 4* redshirt freshman Jack Miller, so it's not like when Fields was here in 2019 and the only backups were walkons.  These other 2 guys have been in the program much longer (McCord since the spring and Miller got some PT last year) and are much more suited to play.  I think Ewers will be given a shot to win the job next year, but at this point, he will not get enough reps to realistically be ready to play this year.  He is the 4th string guy right now.

They have 3 dudes who could start at dozens of division 1 schools.  not including Ewers

unfortunately- None of them have much game experience and need to be developed a little bit so whoever is first and or second will likely stick around and whoever isn’t will likely transfer at the end of this year or early next year.

great problem to have.

Ewers is so ridiculously talented though, I'll be shocked if he doesn't get a crack at the job next year after redshirting and developing this year. Unless McCord steps in for Stroud and just goes ape shit or Stroud comes back healthy and just goes on a tear- my guess is Ewers will be eased into that job next year.

The Zips have the distinction of being the only team in the MAC that has ever defeated the Buckeyes.
In the interest of full disclosure:
  • Akron was NOT in the MAC at the time.  In fact the MAC hadn't been created yet and for that matter, neither had what became the B1G.
  • Akron wasn't even called Akron at the time, they were Buchtel College.
  • Akron's coach at the time was none other than John Heisman.
  • It was 127 years ago, in 1894.

I know, I was talking about teams currently in the Mac. In 1894 the OAC hadn't even been formed yet.

There are other Ohio teams with more recent wins vs OSU of course, including the Bearcats.

QB recruiting is interesting, to me, teams want to stock the room, and if they do the obvious happens, and a Fields level player leaves when he's probably better than Fromm.

The Dawgs are pretty stocked as well and signed another for next year, I'm surprised more of these guys don't go to "Kansas State".

Ohio State LB K'Vaughan Pope booted from team after sideline argument with coaches in the middle of the 2nd?  I would have liked to have see that.  Seems like the Buckeyes are a little thin at LB.
A decade of Victory over Penn State.

All in since 1969

One of the weirdest things - I'm watching the game and also checking Twitter and the OSU reporters were only talking about him appearing to quit midgame.

If I was a senior that couldn't even get on the field for a blowout vs Akron, I'd be pretty heated too.

Agreed.  I think most everyone would've reacted the same way.

From what I’ve been able to put together in bits and pieces, he was told he would be playing in this game.

He was to enter as part of a package of players and when they went to take the field to Teradja Mitchell waived him off. He lost his mind.

He went to leave and CJ Barnett, one of the Ohio state assistants, brought him back but then he got into it with the linebacker coach-Al Washington and really lost his mind.

He was then escorted off and proceeded to go on social media.

According to his high school coach who has tweeted about the incident, he biding his time for many years behind Borland Werner and Baron Browning and thought this was his year.  But a lot of the younger linebackers are getting as much or more playing time and so he was frustrated before the game even began.

Piecing it together, it sounds like maybe this game was his last chance to make a name for himself and earn a spot in the rotation. When he was waved off he misunderstood/overreacted. CJ Barnett talked him down to a low boil, but then Al Washington probably said something along the lines of "you're not going in at all today after pulling that stunt" and it triggered an absolute nuclear meltdown.
