I disagree completely. Only recently (2010+/-) have things changed for the worse.

It's a free farm league to the NFL, is what's being said here.
yeah, well duh.

his implication was that Power 4 conferences just do this whole football thing for free. they don't. they make billions of dollars operating their leagues. and there ain't nothing stupid about it.

those are the exceptions, not the rules. most guys in P4 conferences that are future NFL guys....ain't there to play skool- and have never been there to play skool.
No, most are "aspiring NFL guys".  Not everybody gets drafted, in fact most don't get drafted.  And it's top heavy.  A team like Alabama may have 8-10 guys drafted, but Mississippi State may have one or two every other year.

you can disagree all you want. but it's the truth.

and it's not recently either- been that way long before 2010.

That would be my first choice. Played and coached under Alvarez. The shoe fits.
still might be too early to give up on Fickell- it is only Year 3. he could still turn things around.

Eck is a Wisconsin guy though and is proving he can really coach. took Idaho to FCS playoffs every year he was there and had 10+ win season his 3rd and final year. took New Mexico into UCLA's house and whooped that ass and got their coach fired.

No, that wasn't.

Again, the entire argument has been about how the NFL is getting the benefit of a free minor league, and has operated in poor faith while interacting with college football.  The NFL gets all the benefit of a farm system, with zero risk or financial cost, and the interaction between the two is one-sided and often detrimental to college football. This is all certainly true.

It's also true that the college football conferences and schools are making billions of their own.  But that wasn't the point being made about how the NFL interacts with college football.

And again, the only thing better than a free farm system for the NFL, would be a profitable one.  But I have little doubt they've explored the option and decided it's not worth the investment or risk.  So they'll remain satisfied allowing college football to continue providing them a free minor league, with zero risk or investment on their part.

the college Power conferences (SEC/B1G) benefit as well by the NFL not having a competing farm system. you really think they want to share with the NFL and give up their multi-billion dollar golden goose? hint: they don't.

What exactly could the NFL do to co-exist with college football better?  They already won't allow anybody not a junior to declare for the draft....what other things would improve CFB?

They could stop doing that and just let them get drafted out of HS. Let them pay for the development.

But they won't.

I'd like to see a class-action lawsuit on behalf of players against the NFL.

Maybe, but I'm relatively certain that if the NFL believed it could develop a farm system that would actually compete with college football, they already would have done so.  The NFL isn't known for leaving money on the table.

I think that college football fans are very particular about how they follow college football.  NFL games out-draw college football games, but I don't think an NFL farm league would draw much vierwership away from college football.

Regardless I don't think we're ever going to see it.  If it were going to happen, it would have happened.

Question...

If the NFL actually created a farm league... And it was during the fall when CFB exists...

Who would watch?

The UFL averaged 670K/game this spring and it's not going up against college or NFL football.

who would watch immediately? probably no one.

but if the NFL and it's tv partners threw insane money behind it and all of the top players in CFB left CFB and jumped ship to NFL Farm and all the recruits in the ESPN/Rivals/247/ON3 top 300 lists started going to the NFL Farm and bypassing college- probably a lot.

but none of this is ever going to happen so it's kind of stupid to even talk or think about imo.
