thoughts from the Michigan game....they looked better with Sherrone Moore sitting his ass at home.
they might want to think about starting Jaishawn Barham at EDGE and Cole Sullivan at LB. Derrick Moore has been playing through injury and hasn't popped off yet at EDGE. Barham gives them an explosive pass rushing threat off the edge they are lacking right now, and TJ Guy has been a major let down through 3 games- expected way more from him after his breakout year last year and this being his SR year. Oh and Jimmy Rolder is not good at ILB. he's a decent back-up, that's it. Cole Sullivan is only a RS Frosh and is already better than him. Time to play Cole Sullivan more and Jimmy Rolder less.
Of course caveats apply, they played a MAC team- but they looked MUCH better when they actually let Bryce Underwood attempt shots down the field on 1st and 2nd down and they actually used his legs in designed run plays and zone reads. WHO WOULDA THUNK IT.
Obviously playing on the road at night in Norman is a much different beast/animal and obviously Oklahoma's talent level and scheme on defense is worlds better than CMU- but they did not set up their young QB with the possibility of having any success last week. Didn't throw it on 1st or 2nd down and never once used his legs in the offense to make Oklahoma have to keep that in mind and account for it. Instead let's run on 1st down into an 8 man box, run on 2nd down into an 8 man box, and then let's ask our 18 year old true freshman QB to throw it on 3rd and long and save us. Lol.
It's vs a MAC team- but 63 points while taking the foot off the gas pedal is pretty impressive- could've even had 73 points- their automatic FG kicker missed a FG and they had a long TD run by Jordan Marshall called back- and this Michigan offense wasn't doing that last year against crap teams at all. They probably already have more explosive plays of 20+ yards on offense this year through 3 games than they did all of last year in 13 games. Might not even be an exaggeration. WR's are still pretty ass.
Bryce Underwood has insane levels of talent. I feel like there are going to be tons of WRs in the portal this off-season that would want to come join him. If it doesn't work out here for him- it'll be because Sherrone Moore is a piss poor coach. Won't be because of Bryce Underwood.
