This is, of course, the only way it could work.
Pretty sure GaTech left willingly.  I don't recall Tulane's deal.  It was a very very long time ago.  Can you imagine any B1G or SEC team willingly leaving now?
Actually, yes.

The money flowing now is not a forever thing. It's not sustainable.

Unless/until a breakaway, the money will always be more in the B1G and SEC, than anywhere else.

So why would anyone leave before then?

The Big Ten and SEC could be disbanded and start over with the schools of their choice, to form the NFL Lite.
I'm on board with letting the NFL start their own minor leages - and finance it.Actual students aren't going to portaling every season because ya know, career aspirations.I'd like to hear what all the student/athletes not being financed have to say about this mess. How much more complicated and time consuming sports are because they are spending an inordinate amount of time traveling to distant venues. Thus cutting into studies and other aspects of life while University Admins & Network Executives are making bank while putting on this charade that they care

They won't leave before then. The money is going to dry up sooner than later.

NBC/FOX/CBS/Mickey Mouse won't want to pay for the Vandy's and Northwestern's (etc.) much longer. Just wait until the next negotiations. It will be over.

Why would the NFL start a league when the power conferences stupidly do it for free?

When?

All I can think of is Temple and the Big East. Pretty sure they went quietly.
What teams have been kicked out?

Temple got kicked out of the Big East, but they were a satellite member for football only.
Odd you both had this revelation and were typing it at precisely the same time making a valid point to the resident pot stirrer - youse two get a Yuengling

Only thing better than a free farm league would be a profitable one.

If the NFL ever thought they could make money on a minor league they'd do it.  I'd be shocked if they haven't researched it and the fact that they haven't done it yet, tells me they know it won't make enough money to be worth it.

So they will remain content to let college football provide that for free.

Same - as - it - ever - was!!! Time to kick the status quo in the cajones, then the NFL will jack up their prices again and maybe fold - that'd be cool

I guess I'm not sure what you believe college football can do about it?  I completely understand the frustration, but do you have a specific solution in mind?

The athletic departments will consist of 4 sports.

Football, men's and women's basketball, and women's volleyball.

Maybe hockey survives.
