Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I myself have done most of the cooking yesterday and today so all I have to do tomorrow is the turkey and potatoes.  My son has to work so won't even be eating until early evening and my sister and I will be playing Scrabble probably and maybe I can talk my hubby into playing Yahtzee or cribbage while waiting for the food.  It will be just us this year, as once again no one in the rest of the family will be able to make it here - oldest son is in Wyoming, and daughter is in Kentucky (two of her boys are in the Army and probably won't make it home either).  Youngest son's daughters are all in Alaska and my in-laws are spread out all over.

I am truly thankful that while my uncle passed away a couple of months ago (he was 91), the rest of the family on both sides are all hanging in there - especially my mother-in-law who has overcome cancer, a stroke, and is enduring kidney dialysis due to her diabetes - she is truly a fighter and we are all thankful she is still with us.

On a lighter and happier side, my Huskers are bowl bound and I am also very proud of our volleyball stars - I am optimistic that they will be celebrating winning it all this year!

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said,
but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant.  Anonymous

a Son, a Sister, and Hubby make for a good table of 4 at Thanksgiving!

God bless your mother-in-law.

Agreed on the Huskers.  The Volleyball ladies have a challenge on the road to win the Big Ten, but they are capable!

We all have something to be thankful for.

I'm thankful for many things, thankfully.

Happy Thanksgiving (Friendsgiving in this house today).

Just the two of us here this time.  We're both very thankful for a ton of stuff, including my time wasting with youse guys.  The weather is a bit dreary but the condo is still light with windows, so that's great.  It's 61°F so we'll certainly go for a walk.  My bride is doing pretty well overall, she has some shoulder issues, always joints with her (maybe she should smoke some).  I'm out of my "go to everyday" wine which I'll fix if the liquor store is open, a lot of retail is open until noon.

I seem to be in good shape relative to my age, still getting used to being able to see distance without glasses, but not close up without.  My wife bought a small bird yesterday, frozen, so is thawing, it's a butterball, small.  I suggested getting a packaged meal but she said Kroger didn't have any.  She said Kroger was packed, she did bring home sushi for lunch, they have really good sushi there, we don't go out any more for sushi.

I'm thankful my daughter is flying in Monday from Canada.  My step son and his GF made noise about coming here for Christmas, he says his GF really likes it here.  I hope they do come, we offered to fly out to SF.

My wife has some banking issue that can only be resolved in person, and said bank is in France.  She wants to go in April, which is OK with me.  I priced tickets in February and they are really cheap then, not so much in April.  Getting minor stuff done in France is apparently often a pain.

Anyway, hoping everyone here has a relaxing stressfree enjoyable holiday, this is my favorite one of the year.

I'm Thankful for many many things.
It's interesting how our thoughts and priorities change as we get older.
Most importantly, thankful for family and good friends.
My daughters arrived late last night and will be here most of the day.
They and the son-in-law doing the cooking.
I have many good friends and I certainly count the folks here as good friends.
I spend about as much time here as I do with anyone.  And I look forward to it and enjoy it.

Enjoy the day, try not to stress, God Bless.

Cut my workweek short to spend the rest of Thanksgiving week in Arizona, arriving to Tucson on Tuesday. Yesterday my Dad and I took a field trip out into the desert for a guided tour of Kitt Peak National Observatory, a grouping of over 20 optical telescopes built atop the highest ridge of Southern Arizona’s Quinlan Mountains. Leaving Arizona after college, I always return with specific stops to make after skipping out on so much sightseeing while I was a student. And Kitt Peak was on my list for a while now.

Today my brother and Dad are headed into the desert ranchlands west of the city where longtime family friends, to include their children, have made a tradition of hosting us over ever since my Mom passed away. We’re bringing along pumpkin pies, side salads, and bottles of red blends while they do the heavier lifting of prepping the turkey.

Tomorrow heading up to Scottsdale; not going to the Territorial Cup this year.

Overcast week, windy and chilly at an elevation of 7k-ft; overlooking the Tohono Oʼodham tribal lands of the Sonoran Desert, the blue mountain ranges in the northward distance are seen from over 30 miles away:

I think for whatever reason this year, I’ve ended up growing more thankful about things.

Maybe it was a bout of therapy that helped change my perspective, but I think I’ve grown a bit better at letting things that bother me go and appreciating more the good things that I have and the things around me.

And God do I enjoy this holiday, which probably celebrated something concrete at some point, but is now just a good reason to take a break and slow down in the middle of fall, get together with family and enjoy a little food (OK, more than a little)
