What do the football gods think of this matchup? I imagined this with a little help from Microsoft Copilot:

I am thinking some ducks could be intercepted and be brought back for a score. This is my attempt at humor for the night, but it is 13-days away, and I can't wait. I used to enjoy, Peking Duck in Des Moines, but it is not available at Chuong Garden, locally.

Lol,  are you copying Medina now and posting games 2 weeks early if both teams have an off week the week before?

I tell you,  If Iowa plays like it did against Minnesota,  and Oregon plays like it did against Wisconsin,  and since the game is in Iowa City,  then Iowa has a good chance to win this game.

On the other hand,  Oregon has shown they are not intimidated by road games to the Midwest, having blown out NW and Rut on the road,  and pulling out a 2OT win at PSU.  Plus the off week will give them plenty of rest,  so I don't see any problems with road fatigue.

Should be a good game.

tell ya what if it's a night game in Kinnick, give me Iowa. they damn near knocked off Indiana- who is a great team in a noon game. that place is a house of hell for visiting top ranked teams, especially at night.

Is Ferentz going to endure at Iowa like the Prison Guard & Mouse did in the movie "Green Mile"? That possess some form of immortality passed down from the big innocent guy executed

It is an interesting contrast to see Ferentz endure year after year while all the big name coaches keep getting fired.

Franklin was #2 in the country and 3 weeks later was fired.  Mike Gundy coached OkSt for 2 decades.  Gone!  Brian Kelly was too good for Notre Dame and dumped them for LSU.  Now he's gone.    I could go on and on.  Every hot shot coach in the country knows now they could be 3 weeks from the chopping block.   Yet Ferentz just keeps chugging along.

10 seasons ago or so, there was a lot of talk in the state about Kirk being fired.
Lucky for Kirk, he had a very large buyout clause in the contract that most felt allowed him to keep his job.

perhaps lucky for Hawkeye fans - Kirk now has more Big Ten victories than any other coach

Ferentz is now 222-147 overall,  which includes 210 wins at Iowa.   That is an overall winning percentage of 60.1%,  which qualifies him for the college football hall of fame elligibilty

That puts Ferentz only 187 wins behind  Joe Paterno''s all time record of  409 wins.  If Ferentz just coaches for another 23 years, until he is 93 years old,  he could break Joe Paterno's record.

I was telling one of my administrative assistants today, who is a student at Iowa and ticketholder, that Iowa has its best chance if it is at 11:05 a.m. CT, or a night game. Something about crashing heads and bodies and playing football at 9:05 a.m. one's own time after a 2.5 hour flight is unappealing.

Penn State was the beast of the East back then. They were generally the men among boys. Until they joined the Big Ten, I hadn't thought about what a recruiting advantage they had being in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, but I think about it over and over, now.
