I was expecting something like this during the bye week.  We seemed to survive it, but then this happens on a game week.   Very odd, especially with the Ruggs thing a few days prior.

Is it a big loss?  I guess not, but he was in competition for the backup spot.  If Stroud got knocked out, I felt good having Miller available as he looked more cool than big arm, high ceiling, but very nervous McCord.  So if McCord struggled in that scenario, Jack was ready.

Now it's basically McCord or bust at backup.

They brought Quinn Ewers to Nebraska, Day said he could play if needed.

If the second W/L figures are overall, OSU one L of course.

well, the Huskers only win in the series was the day Braxton Miller went down in Lincoln.  I was there.

I won't be in Lincoln today.

Neither will Rex Burkhead

I'll be on the golf course

The way Nebraska keeps playing close games that they lose is an indication of a few things. The Nebraska players have definitely not quit, and continue to try hard for their coach (they don’t want to lose Frost). The Nebraska defense is a solid group (players and coaches), worthy of respect (as they have earned it). The head coaching mentality (playing to keep it close and avoiding the bad, blow-out loss that might get me fired) is misguided, when you are playing good teams (better or perceived to be better), it is important to take chances, and go for the throat (not play conservative).

I like Stroud a lot, but he has a problem that Dwayne Haskins had, he is averse to running at all, in any situation (taking something too far). At some point, when this type of QB rolls out to throw, and has a back to pitch to, or backfield pass as an option (when everyone is covered downfield), the defense will swarm the back, as the QB is ZERO threat to run. I don’t expect him to become Justin Fields, but part of being an excellent QB, is taking what the defense is giving you (because they can’t defend everything) - nobody is covering the QB run, when Stroud has the ball. In order to improve, he needs to change that about his game, going forward. If not, he will be continually missing out, on what any defense is just giving him.
