Week 10 Thoughts:
-On the winless side of things, we saw Baylor beat Kansas to eliminate the last team from a power conference. UTEP and Georgia Southern had reasonably strong games they lost.
-This was a bad a week for the Big Ten’s Rose/Sugar hopes with both Ohio State and Penn State fallings, the former in very bad fashion (as a Buckeye fan, it was hard to watch). This more than likely means that only Wisconsin has a strong chance to make the semi-final bowls outside of major chaos. It does make the east divisional race interesting though a week after many were writing it off as close to over. Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, and Penn State all have ways to win it. Michigan State would be the overwhelming favorite if they beat Ohio State next week as they would then only need to beat one of Maryland or Rutgers to end the year. Oddly, both Penn State and Michigan now are better off with a Buckeye victory for next week.
-In the Big 12, we had the top 6 teams going against each other. Texas, now with 3 conference loses, is eliminated from that group. Oklahoma and TCU have come out as the 2 one loss teams which positions them best for the Big 12’s CCG and leaves them as the Big 12’s best shot by far at the semi-final bowls.
-The ACC saw the better record teams win the major divisional match-ups and it is looking more and more like Clemson vs. Miami (FL) for the ACC Championship.
-USC is now one win against Colorado or UCLA from heading to the PAC-12 Championship.
-Georgia has clinched their bid to the SEC title game.
Week 11 Thoughts:
-Our undefeated teams play in the following games: Undefeated Georgia at Auburn, undefeated Alabama at Mississippi State, 1-loss Notre Dame at undefeated Miami (FL), and UConn at undefeated Central Florida
There are a few huge games here. This is Georgia’s toughest remaining match-up till the SEC Championship and Auburn itself is one of the 2 loss teams who could get lucky if they won out. Notre Dame vs. Miami is huge too. A Miami winner sets the stage for a monstrous ACC Championship game. A Notre Dame win keeps them on pace for the Rose/Sugar.
-Our other 1-loss teams (besides Notre Dame) play in the following games: 1-loss Toledo at Ohio, 1-loss Washington at Stanford, Florida State at 1-loss Clemson, 1-loss TCU @ 1-loss Oklahoma
With these games, we see Washington in a 3-way battle atop the PAC-12 North with Stanford and Washington State. Stanford is eliminated with a loss here. Our bigger game is in the Big 12 though. The TCU/Oklahoma winner will be alone in the standings and by far the conference’s best chance for the Rose/Sugar.
-Out winless teams play in the following games: winless Georgia Southern at Appalachian State, winless UTEP @ North Texas.
