Right guard Micah Mazzccua will be available Friday after all, though Henry Lutovsky will start.

I'm not a fan of Friday night CFB games. It actually works really well for me. This is on Fox so I'll get to see it but I just don't like infringing on the traditional HS timeslot.

I'm loving that this is a ranked vs ranked game.

Congratulations to Nebraska and Illinois on both getting to 3-0 and into the top-25.

Preseason, Illinois' first three games looked tougher than Nebraska's because the Illini had a ranked Kansas team on the docket.  Their win in that game looked impressive until a week later when Kansas lost at home to UNLV.  Consequently, at this point, I think that UNL's 3-0 looks more impressive than Illinois' 3-0 because 2-1 Colorado now looks like a better win than 1-2 Kansas.

Looking ahead, both teams have what I consider to be advantageous schedules.  They both play their two toughest (based on ranking) opponents on the road.  For Illinois that is #9 Oregon and #10 PSU.  For Nebraska it is #3 tOSU and #11 USC.  I consider that advantageous because my theory is that games you most want HFA in are the games most likely to be close enough for HFA to potentially make a difference.  IMHO, neither UNL nor Illinois would stand more than a trivial chance of knocking off a top-11 team regardless of where the game is played so they are better off playing those games on the road and getting HFA in the games where it might actually matter.  The rest of their schedules:

Illinois:

  • Home:  #18 M, PU, MN, MSU
  • Away:  RU, NU
Nebraska:
  • Home:  RU, UCLA, UW
  • Away:  PU, IU, IA

IMHO, the winner of this game is more-or-less a lock for a bowl and has a plausible shot at 10-2 and being in the Playoff discussion come early December.

Nah, a win over Colorado is not better than a win over Kansas.  Kansas had a letdown game.  We'll find out for sure soon as conference play starts to get rolling.

Kansas and Colorado play each other directly on 11/23.  We'll know then! :)

Do they care?  They are the only show in town either way

Kansas could very well be 1-3 after playing WVU this week
