I would not consider it to be an upset if Northwestern wins.
Iowa has a starting quarterback whose shoes are stuck in cement. Opponents know just where he will be in every passing situation. He might be okay with a superior O-Line. The offensive line he has is incapable of protecting him, and cannot rush block either. It is a hapless situation.
Alex Padilla, 2nd team QB, threw 6 passes on target against Wisc. 3 of which were dropped. He glided away from the pass rush pressure (at least on the last series).
Iowa's nepotism has led to an untenable coaching situation. Theoretically the O-Coordinator reports to the Athletic Director, because the A.D. is not his dad.
At the conclusion to this season we shall see if the A.D. does his job.

I don't know if I read it here or somewhere else,  but I heard Wisconsin players say they knew the exact play Iowa was going to run when they were in a run formation.

The predictability of Iowa's offense against Purdue and Wisconsin was disappointing.  Especially after seeing how Iowa had used the mis- direction well against MD and PSU.

The weird part is you could tell Brian Ferentz was running the same play 2 times in a row on many different occasions, and the play never worked the 2nd time. 

Against Purdue, Iowa had a 3rd and 1, ran the QB sneak that failed then on 4th and 1 ran another QB sneak that failed again.

Against Wisc, Iowa had 3rd and 2, had a FB run that failed, then on 4th and 1, ran another FB run that failed again.

Its not just a crappy OL and an immobile QB, but that does not help.  There is a lack of creativity and too much predictability in Iowa's offense.

I'm frustrated that offensive playcallers don't run successful plays more than once or twice the entire game

it seems to me playcallers try too hard to "outsmart" or surprise the defense.

such as, that play didn't work at all, the defense would NEVER expect us to run it again!

this play worked for an EASY 40 yard TD, let's not run that thing again, the defense will be watching for it

Granted, I think you are underestimating the football smarts of the defense.  Chuck Brantley said he baited McNamera into the game ending pick last week, because he recognized that they had run the same play successfully in the 2nd quarter, and he knew what Cade was looking for in his read, so he stuck with his man just long enough, then broke on the TE.  As much as we THINK we know football, those guys KNOW football.

Oh, I'm quite certain all these coaches that have P5 jobs know a hell of a lot more than I'll ever know.

but, sometimes it's more about execution and less about the play call.  Sometimes not.  Some offensive plays are doomed from the start vs some defensive calls.

Running a QB sneak into the same defensive alignment repeatedly can't be smart.

i believe in a play progression
I do not see it with Minnesota's play calling and many OC's are the same.  they are either too smart or over think things but more and more today the same formation means the same play while not too far back OC's would scheme the same formation but run a play that took advantage of what you did as a defense the last time we ran that formation

its not hard to get a feel for a game but i do think todays OC'/playcallers are not doing a good job setting up the team for success

I don't even mean the coaches.  That was a true freshman CB recognizing the same play, and baiting the QB into a pick
