Also, let's not get too excited just yet.
The Badger D played very well, holding Penn State to 233 total yards, and only allowing one drive of more than 50 yards (56, for a field goal).
BUT...Penn State scored 14 off of two interceptions, and the Joseph threw a third, at a critical moment in the 4th quarter at midfield. The offense put together two good drives, and got lucky on a broken play that went 75-yards for the win. I'll take it--wins are nice; upsets at Penn State are nicer, and a handful of lucky breaks are generally part of the anatomy of an upset. But no question, strong D saved a still anemic offense.
The passing/throwing mix is suspect: 38/28, despite Dupree averaging over six yards/carry, and the team averaging over four yards/carry--while Joseph's ball security is highly suspect.
I know everyone--including the betting lines--is now expecting a beat down of Sparty for homecoming this week. I'm not so sure. The Badgers did worse against their two common opponents this season. MSU is really dinged up, which is a major concern for them, but the Badgers aren't out of the woods because of one fluky win, and their quarterback is still 17 out of 18 in those Big Ten QB passing grades posted over there on the rankings thread.
It looks like the D will keep Wisconsin in a lot of games this season, but the jury is out on whether the offense will hand those games over to the other side.
Just looking at last weekend's results, everyone thinks this week will be a cake walk. I'm not convinced.
Also, should probably take this last weekend more into account when evaluating where Penn State is today: big wins over Marshall and Buffalo, not a great result over Temple. Lost at home to Wisconsin with a questionable offense.
