Not yet, but where I live it's nice when the sun goes down.

Golfers generally start at sunrise in these parts. You don't see many people on the course after 4PM or so, at this time of year.
well then, if sunrise is an hour later, the old golfers can get another hour of sleep!

I like daylight in the morning, and I like it when the sun drops in the evening (house faces West).

Many thanks to whoever invented these things. Could not sit out there without it.

We have a large covered back patio, about 300 sqft, with a 10' ceiling, that faces due south.  We enjoy both sunrises and sunsets from there for most of the year.  Of course in high summer the westering sun can get pretty brutal so I installed a pull-down shade for when the sun's low enough to get under the roofline.  Like this:

Not a fan of pulldown shades at all. Cuts down on any breeze.

I've got this guy --- with the rolling shade.  It's a life saver.

It does, but it also cuts the temp by 15-20 degrees, which is more important.  We've got ceiling fans to keep the air moving.

Does it come apart easily, for storage?

I only ask because a hurricane would definitely take it apart.

The fans help for sure. Still nice to have that breeze. The awning gives us shade and allows the breeze. I thought it was very reasonable too.

I don't take it apart, but I don't get hurricanes.  We do get hellacious storms and tornadic weather, but it remains all year.  The shade can be taken off easily enough to avoid acting as a sail, but I've never had an issue, honestly.

And it's not too expensive, so if it got destroyed, it wouldn't kill you to buy another one.

I do take the shade off and store it during the winter, to avoid snow and ice accumulation.  I have replaced the shade once so far in 4 years, due to some fading and it getting brittle after weathering.

That awning doesn't stop the westering sun for a patio that faces due south, the sunlight comes in right under it, exactly the same as our covererd patio.

I had set up a misting system out on the back patio a few years ago. Didn't use it much, and now it's deteriorating (it was cheap from Amazon).

Maybe I should revisit that and see if it can be revived, or get something set up to replace it.

Or I could just sit inside in the A/C.

Do it.

Do it for the Euros, give them something to dream for.
