Whoever was picked after the Raiders took Jamarcus Russell at #1 overall would have to be in the running.
LOL, Calvin Johnson #2 and Joe Thomas #3

Charles Woodson and Randy Moss went after Peyton. Pretty good draft.

Man the mid 80s thru mid 90s was a fun era for bigtime NFL QBs playing on bigtime NFL teams.  Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Jim McMahon, John Elway, Jim Kelly, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Brett Favre.  Just some epic matchups between and among that group.

I was going to say pretty shitty draft behind him.  Two HOFers, and a bunch of crap

Alan Faneca was a stalwart Guard, and Fred Taylor was a good RB, but not very many of the others are ringing the bell very strongly.

Fred Taylor was solid, and knowing what we know now about drafting RBs that high, being taken #8 wasn't his fault

Yeah, I guess if a guy plays 10+ years, but doesn't make the HOF, he sucks.

Alan Faneca is a HOF guard and was one of the best of his era along with Steve Hutchinson.

Fred Taylor was more than just a solid RB. That man was a fucking beast stuck on a shit team with no OL or help for the bulk of his career in JAX and was still straight up torching the league in the 2000s. His size/speed combo was insane. He was a hell of a player.

That 1998 draft was pretty good draft. Peyton, Charles, Randy, were in the ELITE of the ELITE all-time for their positions. Alan Faneca is a HOF'er. Fred Taylor was a beast. Takeo Spikes was a hell of a player. So was Kyle Turley, Greg Ellis, Grant Wistrom, Tra Thomas, and Keith Brooking.

Not everyone is going to be a HOF'er in the 1st round.....4 in one 1st round is a pretty good hit rate....

Any one of those who went after #2 would have been fine.
