wait didn't that Miami scam artist who is funding all their NIL deals go to jail yet? oh well, when he eventually does Miami will be screwed. lot of rich dudes graduated from Miami but most of them give zero fucks at all about the football team.
Yeah, I don't get where the Miami NIL is coming from.  Granted he's from that area, and has already graduated.  And while he's MSU's best CB, he's not great.  He also went into the portal last year, but returned.  Guessing because he overvalued himself.  I guess Miami paid up this time

RS Frosh Wisconsin DT Jamel Howard in the porthole. Michigan DL coach Mike Elston was after him really hard, wanted him badly in the 2023 class. Elston knows a thing or two about defensive linemen. Wonder if Michigan will try and get in on him. Has 3 years left of eligibility and was a player they really wanted out of HS.

If he couldn't see the field last year with the garbage DL UW trotted out there, well, go for it.

This one hurts, badly.

Wisconsin beat out Miami, FSU, UF, Bama and many others to win this kid last December, and he showed on the field why he had so many offers. He became the top starting QB as a true freshman.

Word is $1.5 Million. Other word is that his father is very sick. Who knows anymore.

Xavier Lucas, Wisconsin, Safety

Wisconsin has not signed off on the portal paperwork and it's now been well more than 48 hours.

Why?

Wisconsin has discovered 6 months of Miami tampering.

I think the kid ultimately goes, but why not nail Miami to the wall on this?

Michigan has been developing DL's as good or better than anyone the past 7-8 years. If they want him they get the benefit of the doubt from me. Not every kid is Mason Graham and ready to start at DT at a high level as a true freshman. that is incredibly rare.

@betarhoalphadelta , we predicted this. Ultimately, it looks like this new era will be great for blue bloods like my school but I still don't like it. By pulling this guy the Buckeyes not only improve their offense next year but also kneecap a league opponent that might otherwise pull off an upset of Ohio State.

I'm not a fan either.  As a Buckeye I could just say "hooray for us, the rest of you suck" but how on earth are fans of schools like Purdue supposed to remain interested.  Eyeballing the numbers it looks like it takes close to $20 Million/year to be a serious NC Contender.  I got this from a questionable source so if anyone has anything more concrete I'll amend but here is what I see for top NIL spend for 2024:
  • $22.3M Texas, in CFP, won first round CFP game.
  • $22.3M Ohio State, in CFP, won first round CFP game.
  • $20.1M LSU, finished 5-3/8-4 and will play Baylor in the Texas Bowl.
  • $18.3M UGA, won SEC, in the CFP.
  • $17.2M aTm, finished 5-3/8-4 and will play USC in the Vegas Bowl.
  • $16.4M M, finished 5-4/7-5 and will play Bama in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
  • $16.0M Bama, finished 5-3/9-3 and were the "first team out" of the CFP.
  • $15.8M Florida, finished 4-4/8-4 then obliterated Tulane in the "Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl".
  • $15.3M Clemson, won the ACC and made the CFP.
  • $14.8M Oklahoma, finished 2-6/6-6 and will play Navy in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl

Teams in Bold are still in the CFP.  Team in italics made the CFP but lost already.

Even the big spenders that missed the CFP showed the ability to knock off CFP caliber teams:
  • LSU defeated OleMiss and otherwise the Rebels would be in the CFP.
  • aTm defeated LSU and otherwise the Tigers might be in the CFP.
  • M defeated tOSU.
  • Bama defeated Georgia.
  • Florida defeated Ole Miss and LSU both of which would likely be in the CFP had they beaten the Gators.
  • Oklahoma defeated Bama thus derailing the Tide's playoff push.
The problem for the big spenders that didn't make the CFP wasn't that they couldn't play with the big boys.  Every single one of them could and did, the problem for them was that they lost to lesser teams.

Of the eight teams still in the NC race:
  • Three are three of the top-4 NIL spenders (Tx, tOSU, UGA)
  • Two are tallest midgets (ASU, Boise)
  • The other three undoubted have very strong NIL spending (Oregon, ND, PSU)

I have a slew of responses to this:
  • We are accustomed to a guy picking a good fit but maybe Ohio State simply offered him more money?
  • If I played a position that involved the ball being thrown to me, I'd be leery of Michigan until proven otherwise.
  • Wouldn't you RATHER be somewhere with great WR's so that opposing defenses would be less likely to be able to double-cover you with a safety?
  • Until the NCAA's actions become clear, I'd be concerned about that.  Granted, the NCAA will probably SEVERELY punish WMU for Harbaugh's transgressions but you never know, justice might actually be served.

NFL Tight End - Players Rosters - National Football League - ESPN

Michigan does a great job of recruiting and developing TEs.  OSU actually has more in the league though.  This guy would be in the league regardless.

And yes- OSU cleaned up in the Portal yesterday- but I hate everything about it.

This is where I'm at.

I don't like it but if it is going to be the system then I want my school to excel at it and if that screws over Purdue well, if we didn't do it somebody else would.
