This is insane: Ohio State athletics reports 2024 operating expenses of $292.3 million and deficit of $37.7 millionThere are no limits. I have no doubt that a billionaire will bail out Ohio State's Athletic Dept. This portends that an already unbalanced field is becoming more so. When Iowa and Michigan State broke through in the 1980s, and Wisconsin broke through in the 1990s, there was reason for celebration and renewed interest in college football because it meant that it would no longer be the Big Two forever. Most members of the Big Ten will never see a Big Ten Championship in football in the average fan's 80-year lifetime. So the rest of us cling to this:
        • "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
        • "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
Or, perhaps in my lifetime, if it turns out to be longer than I expectUnder the new rules, the rest of us are f---ed.

They don’t need a billionaire to bail them out.
Those figures are for the fiscal year 2023- which ended at the end of June.  So in other words- the revenue from all of 2024 football ( 8 home games plus their playoff run) are not even in there.

Revenue was down in 23 due to only 6 home games.  In 24- back to 8 games, plus playoff. There will be a revenue surplus that more than covers the deficit.

Like most big programs- the men’s football and basketball programs are the only profitable sports.  Both had big increases in profit in 23, and will for 24 as well.

Does Ohio State earn $37.7 million per home game?

~15 Million, and they had three extra home games this year after the fiscal budget closed. Two regular and one playoff for a net gain of ~45 Million.
(We don't know how much that playoff game made, but I bet it's not less than a regular game.)

In a stunning move, Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is reportedly set to head to the NFL to work as Pete Carroll‘s offensive coordinator with the Las Vegas Raiders.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Adam Schefler jointly broke the news on Sunday afternoon.

Kelly is coming off an incredibly successful season as an offensive coordinator on Ryan Day‘s staff with the Buckeyes, following a stint as the head coach at UCLA. He helped guide quarterback Will Howard to his most productive year yet, turned freshman receiver Jeremiah Smith into a household name nationally and helped Ohio State to a national championship.

Well at least one of the guys named kelly found redemption....and even a bigger paycheck. Can't blame him I'd much rather scout talent than recruit it. Must be grating & pathetic all the low brow schmoozing goes to kids waiting for the last - largest offer.

I don't think it's that stunning....Chip quit being a college head coach of a major P4 program in the B1G to be an OC at Ohio State because he's fed up with the college game. All of it. He was bound to jump to the NFL as soon as he got an offer.

Exactly.   This was kind of expected.  And, not just ANY offer.  $6M annual- making him the highest paid assistant in the NFL.

hopefully, Ryan Day can find someone who can manage to score more than 10 points vs Michigan in the Shoe.
