A week in Husker history

1946: A 12-day road trip is planned for season’s end when the Huskers face Oklahoma and UCLA.

1951: Hall of Famer Ed Weir looks back on his biggest thrills as a Husker and describes the “loose tackle” style of play that made him so effective.

1971: Bob Devaney says college football spending should be regulated at the conference level rather than by the NCAA.

1996: Scrutiny of Nebraska football remains intense as the 1996 season approaches.

2001: Dan Alexander is named Big 12 Sportsman of the Year.

2006: The scholarship of incoming freshman Major Culbert is reinstated.

2011: The Nebraska-Iowa game is named the Heroes Game and given trophy game status. Meanwhile, former Husker quarterback Cody Green announces his transfer destination will be Tulsa, where he sees himself as a better fit in the offense.

2016: Nearly 2,000 people gather in Grand Island for the funeral of Sam Foltz.

The Nebraska football team will hold its annual Fan Day on Saturday, Aug. 8, with the free event scheduled to run from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Hawks Championship Center.

Fan Day is an opportunity for Husker fans to interact with the players early in training camp and before the upcoming season. More information for Fan Day will be available soon, including information on how children can sign up to be a part of Coach Matt Rhule’s autograph line.

On Tuesday, Pete Nakos of On3 reported that the Millard South (NE) signal-caller partnered with Derby Watch Supply, becoming the first high school athlete to do so to date. The senior has yet to take a snap for the Big Red, but he's already (arguably) becoming the face of a university he has yet to enroll at. Now, it appears he's becoming one of the most marketable as well.

Here's what the partnership means for Taylor ahead of his final year of high school ball, along with a look at the other NIL deals the prep QB has already secured.

Tuesday's announcement was groundbreaking in more ways than one. Not only did Taylor become Derby Watch Supply's first-ever high school ambassador, but he also became the only high school athlete to land a luxury watch partnership via NIL to date.

Specifically, Taylor partnered with the company to promote the new Rolex Datejust. On Derby Watch Supply's website, watches in the collection are listed anywhere from $6,000 to more than $36,000.

The financial details of the partnership have not been released. Even so, the agreement adds another nationally recognized brand to Taylor's growing list of sponsors, which On3 currently values at an estimated $1 million.

Taylor's Growing List of Brands
This wasn't the 6-foot-3, 200-pound senior's first sponsorship agreement, either. To date, Taylor has partnered with Adidas, Overtime, Subway, Hershey, Gary Young Chevrolet, "and a few other small ones," he told me.

I've been to Stillwater the last two years for this, Ragweed and Turnpike played at both.  Had a frickin' blast.
