Take a look at that cheaters thread and tell me that tradition (including traditional rivalries) is dead. You and your OSU irritants seem to have something to say about that. ;)

MLB will--I presume--continue to protect traditional rivalries.

Lol.. Please don't attempt to ruin this thread by stirring that pot here as well.  This thread doesn't know anything but baseball and we should protect that :)

Too much league swapping.
They're swingers?

Why do we have an AL and NL today?
So they can play each other in interleague games, duh.

Nope.

I agree with some of the recent changes.
The pitch clock is simply getting the pace of the game to what it used to be.  It's actually enforced tradition.
The runner on 2nd in extras is a simple mathematical, prudent idea.  18-inning games aren't necessary.
Limited pickoff attempts is like the pitch clock - just getting the game and pace to what it used to be.  I love the additional steals and steal attempts.  Catchers have to actually be able to throw again!!!!
.
But this?  This is madness.  You're the #1 sport obsessed with it's history and tradition.  Honestly, I'd do the opposite and get rid of interleague play.  If the Yankees and Mets want to play, win your leagues in the same year.  Earn it.
This has 6 teams going from the AL to the NL and Houston going back to the NL!  What!?!
So yes, all the league-switching is outrageous....unless you just have a bunch more interleague play, in which there's no longer any reason to bother with leagues, as others have said.
.
But the other thing is what in the Sam Hell are we doing with a bunch of 4-team divisions?!?  Are we trying to make sub-.500 teams an annual thing in the postseason?!?!  That's a mathematical certainty if you've got all these tiny divisions.
Sigh.
It's as if powerful, important people lack nuance and wisdom or something!!!

I could get on board with four 8-team divisions.  But that's not happening.  You have to pretend 25 teams are "still in it" going into August.
I hate pretending things matter when they don't matter.  It's sad.  It's unnecessary.  If you're in 8th place then take strides to improve.  Duh.

I wonder what the driving motivation is in all of this could possibly be?

Each year we get a "free" ticket to a game, I mentioned this earlier, so we usually go, still have to pay $20 to park (no MARTA out there).  I'm obviously older than them thar hills, but the "game experience" in person is not at all for me.  My wife said it was fine for her.  "They" have turned the game into a family entertainment event with some baseball played in between the main parts of the show.  I much prefer watching on TV.

All this probably helps with younger folks and attendance, I get that.  It turns off anyone who fancies himself as a kind of baseball purist, which I suspect are a dying breed.  One "nice" thing about soccer is the sport doesn't have regular "rest periods", it just continues apace.

Granted, I hardly ever watch soccer even on TV though I pretty much know the rules and quasi-enjoy the game.  When I was a kid, going to a baseball game was a Big Treat (I grew up with few such events).  I'd religiously keep score on a program.  I ran across some of my old scoring sheets when I moved and was throwing things out, I kind wish I had kept one.  It seemed like a duty somehow for a 12 year old.

I suspect ancient folks like me recall how baseball used to be, some figment of our youth, and like our youth, we miss it.

Change the color of that text to GREEN, and it might be a hint.

Yup.  I think we're the only country with green money, or the only major country.  Euros are multi of course, and different sizes, which makes some sense to me.
