The Braves are not very good this season.  Film at 11.

A rare play, in Wednesday’s 5-0 win over the Mets the Braves scored one of their runs on a catcher’s balk

If a catcher uses a piece of equipment (like a mask or glove) that is not properly worn to stop a batted or pitched ball, it's a violation.

The other side to signing all of your studs to team friendly deals is that it opens you up to sign free agents.  Feels like the Braves have just stood pat for like 3 years now

That's more than a slight decrease.  That's more than the value of their top signee.  They hit on so many top prospects, and then locked them into team friendly deals.  But they didn't retain Max Fried for $14.5 million?  Their payroll still would have dropped if they had kept him as their #2.  Instead he's the Yankees #1

Yeah, I wanted to keep Fried a lot.  Their main problem his year is scoring runs.

These days they pull starters after 5-6 innings, so someone might someday match this.

They pulled Sale last night with a 5-0 lead after 8 2/3rds with a guy on first and two out, 116 pitches.

Maddux was sort of the anti-Nolan Ryan.  Ryan struck everyone out and also allowed the most walks of all time.
Maddux was average at striking batters out, but didn't walk people.  Neither gave up many HRs.

Maddux:
HR%:  1.7
K%:   16.5
BB%: 4.9
So if you look at it, his teammates got to be in the game and make lots of plays.
HR + K + BB = 23.1%
Balls in play = 76.9%
.
Ryan:
HR%:  1.4
K%:   25.3
BB%: 12.4
HR + K + BB = 39.1%
Balls in play =  60.9%
.
It must've been pretty boring playing behind Nolan Ryan.

“Rod Carew Jersey Day” on this date in 1977 is one of the most noteworthy regular season games in Twins history. On a sweltering summer day, the man himself, Rod Carew, went 4-for-5 with a home run, raising his average to .403 to the elation of the only sellout crowd of the season. Carew also knocked in six runs and scored a team record five runs in the 19-12 win over the White Sox. Carew finished the season batting an incredible .388 and was named the American League's Most Valuable Player.

Right fielder Glenn Adams, meanwhile, set a team record with eight runs batted in. He had six RBI after just two innings, on a two-run double and grand slam. He went 4-for-5 altogether, adding an RBI single and sac fly. (Adams drove in Carew three times in the game.)

"Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of manly sport."

Kershaw getting his 3,000th K last night was a whole big thing.  I don't recall it being so with Verlander or Scherzer.
Was it?

I thought the same.  But all with one team, which happens to be the second most iconic, i  the second largest market.  Verlander did it with Houston, and Max was on his 4th team
