2024 NFL Draft
« on: August 24, 2023, 11:24:11 AM »
The Athletic's NFL scout/draft guru Dane Brugler releases his pre-season Top 50 2024 NFL Draft prospects...LINK

B1G is well represented on this list with 16 prospects overall, Brugler's got (5) Ohio State, (5) Michigan, (3) Penn State, (1) Iowa, (1) Illinois, and (1) Minnesota.

OSU:
#2 - WR Marvin Harrison, Jr.  (duh)
#13 - EDGE J.T. Tuimoloau (feels based more on size/high level physical tools for the position & projection rn than production, but could go even higher if he Chase Young's it his JR year)
#18 - WR Emeka Egbuka (looks about right)
#35 - EDGE Jack Sawyer (don't see that one at all, looks more like 3rd or 4th rd pick to me)
#49 - OG Donovan Jackson (looks about right, he'll be one of the first guards taken)

Michigan:
#19 - QB JJ McCarthy (similar to JTT, feels based more on size/high level physical tools for the position & projection rn, could go even higher if he makes a year 2 jump and level up season)
#39 - DT Kris Jenkins (definitely going to get drafted higher than this imo)
#41 - OG Zak Zinter (looks about right, he'll be one of the first guards off the board)
#46 - RB Donovan Edwards (looks about right, but could possibly even go higher and be RB1)
#50 - RB Blake Corum (not sure I see him as a 2nd rd RB, feels more like a RD 3 guy to me, not that there's anything wrong at all with that- that's still pretty damn good)

Penn State:
#4 - OT Olu Fashanu (duh- only flaw could be his run blocking...he needs to improve that)
#11 - CB Kalen King (don't think he gets drafted that high imo, like all them high level college CB Cass Tech guys before him he's 5'10+- not quite 5'11....think the NFL is looking for CBs taken that high that are 6'+)
#15 - EDGE Chop Robinson (he could go even higher if he has the kind of level he should)

Iowa:
#17 DB Cooper DeJean (looks about right)

Illinois:
#25 - DT Jer'Zahn Newton (definitely going to get drafted even higher than this imo)

Minnesota:
#40 - DB Tyler Nubin (looks about right)

SEC by the way has 14 of the players on this list, so basically 60% of the top draft prospects are from 2 conferences. If you add USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington to the B1G roster and Texas/OU to the SEC roster it's 38 players- 76%.

But make sure TCU gets a shot!

The Horned Frogs are taking the NFL — and California — by storm with eight selections in the 2023 Draft.

TCU topped both the Lone Star State and all 10 Big 12 universities. The local school was only two picks behind Alabama and Georgia, who each sent 10 players to the NFL. This year tied the program’s 1957 record when the draft was 30 rounds.

Yes, at their zenith, they're just 58 points behind the national champs.
Close call.

With 8 picks, it shows TCU had some talent, they just ran into an outlier.

Michigan had 9 NFL draft picks in '23 Draft. Which is one more than eight! Michigan will have double digits drafted in '24 Draft. Will TCU even have 3?

So apparently not.

Games have single outcomes, but if you consider what MIGHT happen over say 100 such contests, Michigan would probably win 80.  And UGA wouldn't blow them out like they did very often.  Maybe the average score would be 35-21 or something.

TCU had some close games, beat Baylor by a point.
If the committee drops them to #5 after the B12 champ game lose to KSU their draft is completely different

no way they have 8 drafted if they don't get in the playoff

duh! agreed.

TCU had an entire month to prepare for Michigan. Didn't seem like Michigan was preparing for TCU at all. Michigan were way to overconfident and cocky, thought they'd just walk to a W. Lot of self-inflicted wounds from the coaching staff and players for Michigan as well. TCU capitalized on their opportunities- have to give them all the credit in the world.

Georgia wouldn't have beaten TCU 65-7 every time out, that's preposterous, but you play that game 100 times and Georgia beats TCU 99 times and by 10 points at least every single times imo.

This is very weird, and probably true.

I'm on the fence about reupping with The Athletic. A lot of their stuff is top notch, but they have pretty much gutted their college football coverage and they never did much with college basketball, so not sure I want to spend the 20 bucks or whatever they are charging now.
