they should do away with more than 1 protected rivals.

Michigan should play Ohio State every single year. That's it. They do not need to play Michigan State every year. Pick one main protected rival for every school and get on with it.

Hmmm....

What if somebody comes along and says I don't understand why you need any rivals?  What if they say they should do away with all rivals?  What would be your counter-argument why you need exactly 1 rival?

Honored that somehow MSU is included as a reason the schedule is difficult
I read it as more of a dis, with the way that it was worded. It was just sort of awkwardly tacked on at the end. It was like "We get Oregon, USC and Texas at home! ...and, Michigan State is a home game too, fwiw."

If I'm not mistaken, PSU is the only school which actually has none.

I wonder why?  Oh yeah I know-- it's because they're not a Big Ten school. They're just a weirdly added appendage, cobbled together to satisfy the greed of the powers that be at the time.

Because OOC games are a change of pace which makes the game more fun.  Pretty simple really.

Northwestern's punishment from  the Big Ten should have been a first year schedule with OSU, PSU, USC, Oregon, Washington and the Wolverines. Run 'em through the spank line.

Picking one would be hard for UW. Minnie and Iowa. I guess I've have to go with the longest-played. Minnie it is.

It is also because it gives more home games to make money.

TV is where the money is. Content matters. NBC is gonna pay more for Wisconsin/Iowa versus Wisconsin/Ball State.
