I think the Sunday thing goes back to the Bible Belt stuff. I could see it going away at some point. 

The separate store thing should be eliminated too, and they should sell adult gummies.

In my younger days, I was a Sandwich Artist.

I deemed electrical engineering to be a better career path, though.

It does, once called "Blue Laws" for some reason.  Liquor stores here have to have a hard liquor license, one Costco has it, it's a separate store, some Kroger's have it, most do not.  North Carolina had "ABC stores", Ohio has the equivalent.  I'd usually drive to Kentucky for anything hard, it was a lot cheaper.

Wine here is about 2/3rds the price the same stuff was in Ohio.  Liquor is about the same.

A dozen eggs is about $2 now, a half gallon of milk is about $2.50.

But was your pay lifted by minimum wage?

Tough to say. This was 30 years ago so I don't recall what I was paid. 

But I can say a few things:

• I took that job because it was closer to home and paid better than the golf course starter job I had worked the previous summer.
• "Closer to home" was important because I worked there before I was 16 so I needed to rely on my bike or my parents driving me to work. 
• I didn't need a "living wage" because I wasn't a breadwinner for a family of 4; I was a teen trying to earn spending money. 
• The moment I got my license I went and got a job selling computers at Best Buy because the pay was better and foodservice sucks. But I'm sure the work experience that I had at Subway and with my previous jobs was probably a feather in my cap for Best Buy to hire a 16 year old. 

Working at Subway wasn't a factory town scenario; "work for what we offer or you starve". I worked there because it was the best option I had at the time and moved on when it wasn't.

We can get that price at Walmart, but we like the good stuff.

As I often tell people, "We've worked really hard to NOT have to shop at Walmart."
