2023-24 Olympic Sports thread

Can't believe we didn't have this thread yet.

But Wisconsin upsets PSU in women's soccer, handing the Nittany Lions their first loss of the season, opening the door for MSU and Nebraska, who both won today, to share the conference title.

MSU going to have to pony up to keep their coach.  He was hired after the team went winless in 2020, and has now won back to back Big Ten titles in 2022 and 2023

HUSKERS CLAIM SECOND BIG TEN SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

The #25 Nebraska soccer team claimed a share of the 2023 Big Ten Conference title, as the Huskers defeated Illinois by 4-2 decision to cap off an outstanding regular season. Finishing with a 7-1-2 record in league play, NU notches its fifth regular-season title in program history and 11th combined championship, which includes six conference tournament titles.

With a win tonight against a bad OSU team, MSU nearly locks up a double mens/womens Big Ten championship, but OSU completely dominated the first 20 minutes, and finally pushed one across.  A tie does nothing for MSU, so they are essentially down 2.  OSU, who is in 8th out of 9 Big Ten team, just here to play spoiler, and doing so

MSU ties it up, just to give up a 3rd goal and lose 3-2.

Shitty way to lose your first game of the season, with a Big Ten title on the line against a bottom feeder

And Indiana lost, so a win would have clinched a Big Ten title

Now we need Michigan to beat Northwestern, Wisconsin to beat Penn State, and Rutgers to tie or beat Indiana

That picture makes me feel old.  Coach Walker looked like a kid when I was in school.  I interviewed him a couple times.

MSU played their worst game of the season, and the #1 seed is out in the women's soccer tournament.  Lost 2-1 to an Iowa team they just beat 4-0 a week ago

The Iowa women’s soccer team pulled off a stunning upset in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament, beating top-seeded No. 12 Michigan State, 2-1, on Sunday in East Lansing, Michigan.

Iowa narrowly qualified for this year’s Big Ten tournament after finishing eighth in the conference. But seeds did not matter come game time, the Hawkeyes adjusting well after a disappointing 3-0 loss to the Spartans on Oct. 22.
