Anatomy of an Era: Phil Ellis, Part 1 - October 14, 2018

Phil Ellis was the quarterback of the dominating Blackshirt defenses of the mid-90s.  He wasn’t the fastest or most talented guy on the field, but he knew how to read offenses and get the defense in position to make a stop.  When I think of Ellis, I think of him waving his fist over his head – a signal that he was coming on a blitz.

Cassady cemented his place in Buckeye immortality in 1955, when he became the third Ohio State player to win the Heisman Trophy, becoming the first player to ever exceed 2,000 points in Heisman voting – receiving more than three times as many votes as any other player.

Pat Tyrance - Football 1990 - University of Nebraska - Official Athletics  Website

Pat Tyrance was a leading performer on the Blackshirt defenses of the late 80s.  He led the team in tackles in his junior and senior seasons, earning All Big 8 honors along the way.
