We're talking about assistant coach / adjunct position salaries...

When Matt Painter almost left Purdue to go to Mizzou, it wasn't about a raise for himself. It was about making sure he had the budget he needed for assistant coaches and making sure that the AD had a commitment to the other necessary expenditures to be able to commit to a winning program. He had a threadbare assistant coach budget, and that got fixed.

Sounds like Chryst needs to advocate up the chain to be able to pay HIS people better.

More Les Miles trickle down.

Has already resulted in some scrambling at UM, MSU and now UW very late in the game

He has done that already. Alvarez is known to be frugal, but it's really not his call in Madison.

It's these people who have all the control and make the budget decisions:

All I'm saying is that the blame isn't with MSU.

If my company's biggest competitor offered me my same job at nearly double my current pay, I'd leave in a second. And they wouldn't be the ones "at fault" in me leaving, it would be my own employer for not offering me a competitive package.

I was being sarcastic with my post. MSU has the right to hire anyone who will work there.

I don't think $500K is the market rate for a WR coach.

He’s the highest paid TE coach in the country now, discounting guys with coordinator titles.

he's not getting that salary for his work with TEs

the director of player personnel very well may be more valuable than a coordinator

So UW is not paying market rates. Got it.
So, they’re sixth in the conference in total assistant pay, and that is gonna be depressed a little since the current setup discourages a big-time OC.

The teams ahead of them are OSU, Mich (no shame there), MSU (throwing around money and 13th nationally in staff pay), Iowa (not sure there), Nebraska (less than $13k ahead of UW).

The Badgers’ total is dragged down by two young guys they liked that were making starter money and a coach who might still be getting NFL residuals. They also have no non-coordinators over $450k, which might be an issue.

Wisconsin has reportedly found its new athletic director, and it will be an internal hire for the department.

Tuesday, ESPN Milwaukee reported that Chris McIntosh is expected to be named the next athletic director at Wisconsin. A press conference is reportedly coming on Wednesday, though a time was not reported.

But can he coach Rose Bowls if needed?

The King would come back for that. Of course, if PC keeps things on track, he'll never leave.

MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin took a major step in addressing its inexperience in the backfield, as former Clemson tailback Chez Mellusi announced he is transferring to the Badgers program.

Mellusi, who was on campus Tuesday, is eligible immediately with the NCAA granting a one-time transfer exemption, allowing students to switch schools without having to sit out a season. The rule comes at a critical time for Wisconsin, which is slated to have seven scholarship running backs on its fall roster with a combined 73 carries.
