2020 Purdue Football Offseason Thread
« on: December 11, 2019, 09:52:03 AM »
So, 2019 is done. News for 2020...

DC Nick Holt has been fired. His replacement has not yet been named. The futures of the rest of the defensive position coaches are also therefore up in the air.

DT Lorenzo Neal, who has missed the entire 2019 season due to and ACL tear that occurred either in the 2018 IU game or the 2018 bowl [I don't recall which], has decided to return for the 2020 season. This is important as he was projected as a potential decent draft pick in the 2020 draft, and would shore up a defensive line next year that definitely needs it.

Ultimate fake hustle/style over substance guy.

He's what MSU fans initially thought Narduzzi was

QB Elijah Sindelar had been granted a 6th year of eligibility prior to the 2019 season, which would have made him eligible for 2020.

It was announced today that Elijah does not plan to return to use that year.

I know he has already graduated with his bachelors in electrical engineering, and was already in grad school this year. The rumor I've heard is that he's already got job offers and plans to get married in the spring, and with all his injuries is planning to walk away from football and go get a job. I've heard it suggested that he'll leave Purdue with his masters in EE, but I haven't seen confirmation on that. If so, there'd be nothing remaining to accomplish at Purdue.

We all wish him the best going forward. While most Boiler fans would have welcomed him back if that were his chosen path, I think we're glad that the decision was made early, so the team going into spring practices will know who they would or wouldn't be sharing the sideline with.

Bob was no one year wonder in Lincoln, but I'd attribute that to Mike Riley

Diaco obviously knows defense

Yeah, I've heard Nebraska fans are happy about this hire because they think Diaco sucks, so our defense will suck.

I suspect he'll be a big improvement from Holt. With our offense, any improvement on defense should be worth 1-2 wins a year.

Diaco's scoring defense has been good everywhere he was DC, with the 1 year stint at Nebraska as the exception.  I believe he's directed a top 30 defense in almost all of those years.  For S&P, Holt was rated in the 80s while Diaco was in the 40s.

Thats a major improvement for Purdue.  The Boiler offense has averaged over 27 ppg since Brohm has taken over.  A good scoring defense should easily translate into a few more wins.  Especially considering how potent the Purdue offense should be next year.

Rondale Moore is back, baby!

He's looking forward to that rematch with Ohio State, to embarrass their defense once again.

And yes, I realize that means Purdue wins the West to face OSU... But with Rondale, all things are possible. In Rondale we trust!

This is exciting!

There's no team on Purdue's schedule that can stop Moore.

The Boilers genuinely have a punchers chance to win any game.  Also, this is the best WR group in Purdue history.  I'd say the best in the B1G this year.

Yeah, the minute you decide to focus all your attention on Moore, Bell will kill you. Play Moore straight up? You're still dead. Oh, and there's a bunch of highly rated guys around them too.

As long as the OL gives whatever QB is back there time to throw, we're good. And Moore doesn't even require much time to throw--a bubble screen or end-around can go to the house on any play.
