Is Matt Rhule overrated?

I never understood what the NFL saw in Rhule over a handful of other successful college coaches.

For all the talk of Rhule’s success as a “program builder,” yes he won at Temple, but so did Steve Addazio and Al Golden before him as well as Geoff Collins later. Yes Rhule won at Baylor, but so did Art Briles before him as well as Dave Aranda later. Yet you don’t hear similar praise or NFL interest for those guys.

And on top of all that, Rhule’s tenure in the NFL is about as bad as it gets.

At least for Nebraska’s sake, we know Rhule is a better fit for the college ranks.

he may be overrated, I hope not

don't know much about Temple, but as far as Baylor...... Briles is a special case.  I've heard Aranda's name praised by many (Badgers) he got a nice contract extension.

NFL is no indicator.  Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer and Nick Saban come to mind

A Los Angeles Rams assistant will be joining Matt Rhule’s staff in Lincoln. Jake Peetz will be Nebraska’s QB coach. As an offensive assistant, Peetz was brought on to the Rams staff this past offseason. Peetz will also join Rhule’s staff in an undetermined role in special teams.

The initial report was filed by College Football Senior Writer for ESPN Pete Thamel.

Peetz has previous connections to the Nebraska Football program. He played for the Cornhuskers from 2002-2005 as a reserve long snapper and cornerback. In addition, Peetz previously worked with Matt Rhule in 2020 when he was the Carolina Panthers’ quarterback coach. He’s also spent time in Oakland, LSU, and Washington during his coaching career.

It cannot get much worse. Or maybe it could get better. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Not sure Darnold & Mayfield are resume builders but 3rd time's a charm right

one poster said I'm going to go out on a limb here and say he will not be retained on the coaching staff

Those are all statute code words for putting hands around the neck of another individual, likely to be a domestic partner, member or spouse.   Big shame.  I hope the alleged victim is safe.

Leonhard and PArker would be my two top choices

don't think either are wanting to be in Lincoln but, if they are there would be some motivation

no word on D-coordinator at this point - maybe waiting for someone still coaching

Parker's name is Phil

does a helluva job in Iowa City

Stealin from the rich in the Big Ten West would be smooth, but it's VERY doubtful it could happen
