Remaining Undefeated Teams Before Week 3
« on: September 17, 2020, 11:16:33 AM »
Teams with 1st Loss Week 2:
Wake Forest
Duke
UTEP
Syracuse
Iowa State
Charlotte
Kansas State
Louisiana-Monroe
Florida State
South Alabama
Western Kentucky
UAB
Kansas

Maximum number of Undefeated Teams at the End of the Regular Season:
10: The 7 conference champs (including Big Ten champ whom I'm not listing in undefeated teams till closer till they play), plus Liberty and maximum of 2 between Army/BYU/Air Force

Percent of Undefeateds with 1st Loss:
Week 1: 6.5% (5 of 77)
Week 2: 18.1% (13 of 72)

Week 2 Thoughts:
Going to be a short amount here this week as already late and not to much time to get this out there. It was obviously a bad first week for the Big 12 and a good week for the Sun Belt. It was kind of magnified given how few teams playing (only other big story was probably Florida State losing to Georgia Tech). It is a bigger deal for the Sun Belt than it might have been others year though and that part needs to be remembered. There are far fewer non-conference games to compare so wins out of it matter more. An undefeated Sun Belt champ definitely stands a good chance of getting into a NY6 bowl even if an American team beats them out for the automatic. The right 1-loss team might even get in under the right circumstances.

Week 3 Thoughts:
Few games of note throughout college football.
-Houston @ Baylor: The Big 12 needs to avoid losing too many more of these non-conference games and the American would very much like to add a win over the Big 12 of their own. It helps their case down the road if things end up close (American does likely still have inside track for NY6 auto spot though regardless, all else being equal).

-Central Florida @ Georgia Tech: UCF is ranked well. Georgia Tech beat Florida State last week. This will be an interesting one and an important one for the American.

-Appalachian State @ Marshall: A big game for bragging rights between Conference USA and the Sun Belt.

-Miami (FL) @ Louisville: Probably biggest game of the week. Will be interesting to see how they compare.

Remaining Undefeated Teams: ACC: 11, American Athletic: 10, Big 12: 7, Conference USA: 7, SEC: 14, Sun Belt: 6, independents: 4, total: 59
