Purdue now up to 18th nationally and 3rd in the B1G!

Granted, now we're starting to get into a "class size" boost. We have 17 commits, which is second-most of any team in the conference right now.

3rd: Purdue - 17 commits - 247 average of 84.95

Below Purdue in the conference:

5th: Wisconsin - 12 commits - 87.88
6th: Penn State - 9 commits - 91.81
8th: MSU - 10 commits - 87.99
11th: Nebraska - 9 commits - 87.38

I think that if those teams fill out their classes with players even remotely near the same quality as those they have on their commit list, they'll all jump up the rankings quickly and pass Purdue unless their classes remain very small.

Not sure MSU is aware at how you run a pipeline.  They seemed to have one set up at Belleville, and the way you maintain that is to continue to take kids you feel borderline about, to land the home runs like Dobbs.  They slow played DE Jalen Hunt, Iowa came in with an offer, and seemed to really like him, and he committed.  Good for him.

No surprise.  Impressed Dantonio has done has much as he has with one hand tied behind his back.  Oh well.

Nebraska has a big need along the offensive line in its 2019 class and they got some help in that area as Matthew Anderson announced his commitment to the Huskers.

The 6-foot-7, 250-pound offensive tackle announced his decision via Twitter on Friday afternoon and becomes the 10th known commit for Nebraska's 2019 recruiting class.

CUM couldn't flip Mertz, but he did get Dwan Mathis to flip. Unfortunately, MSU is the victim this time around.

I was poking around looking into UW's class for 2019 and I see the following:

They are done at RB, TE, QB and WR.

They still want to take another OT and the top target has been, and still is, Bryce Benhart out of Minnesota.

They need linebackers and have zeroed in on a couple of them. Highly doubtful they get the kid out Nebraska, I'm thinking they will go with Spencer Lytle out of California to the end. There have been a few PWO offers lately for in-state kids.

They need defensive backs (especially safety) and defensive linemen too. More on that later.

I would think the next logical QB target would be in state Sam Johnson, who just committed to BC last month.  He's a 3/4*, more traditional pocket passer.

MSU had been in on Mathis for so long, I'm not even sure if they've been kicking the tires on other QBs.  After Johnson it gets murky in a hurry.

On the flip side, a lot of buzz that Devontae Dobbs, who might be the top OT in the nation, might commit to MSU very soon.  Who knows.

The chatter here amped up way more quickly than I expected.  Losing Mathis sucks, but that's certainly a fine Option B.  If MSU had pursued him as Option A from the start, I don't think anyone would have batted an eye.

Wow, and Dobbs commits to MSU.  Funny how the recruiting gods work.

I think he might be the highest rated MSU recruit in the 247 era.

Per 247, hes the highest rated since Charles Rogers (#3) in 2000

DE Michael Fletcher and WR Tre Mosley both announcing on Friday.  With Dobbs (MSU) and Smith (UM) coming off the board in the past week, Fletcher and Mosley are probably the #1 and #4 uncommitted players on the board in the state.

Mosley himself claims to have grown up a huge UM fan, and while he has an offer, it seems pretty clearly uncommitable.  So did that change, or is he tired of them slow playing him?  He took officials in recent weeks to Missouri and Minnesota, but it seems like anything but UM or MSU would be a shock, and unless something has changed with that UM offer, it likely leaves only MSU.  The question is whether that sticks if UM comes around on him.

Fletcher is a guy who seems primed to shoot up the rankings, with offers coming in from Alabama and Georgia.  Georgia has been on him a while, and he visited down there, but like Mosley it seems like UM and MSU are his leaders.  The difference is there his UM offer is certainly commitable, and while going out of state would be a slight surprise, it certainly wouldn't be the shock that Mosley is.

Beyond those, LB Lance Dixon and RB Jaren Manham are the only big-ish targets left in the state.  Dixon seems destined for PSU.  Mangham is anyone's guess.  Seemed like an MSU commit was only a matter of time, but he lived in Texas as a small child (I think his mom played basketball or track or something at Texas A&M), and while Alabama, FSU and Florida offers didn't seem to move the needle for him, he seems quite enamored with the Texas schools.  My guess is MSU is still probably the leader, but barely, but the biggest threats would be Texas or Texas A&M.
