Apparently 5* OT Devontae Dobbs (the #1 OT in the country and #1 player in MI) wanted to commit over the weekend, but was convinced to take his time per Steve Wiltfong.

FWIW, both Wiltfong and Trieu, as well as the MSU 247 guy, flipped their pick to MSU after the weekend.

A rare bit of fresh air instead of the rush to commit followed by a decommitment.  If they can land him and Barnett, working that Belleville pipeline the past couple years will have really paid off.
Believe that the head coach at Belleville is a former assistant of Thomas Wilcher's at Cass Tech and the OL coach is David Dawson- former Michigan OL.
Something seems strange with regards to them and Michigan. Neither one seem receptive at all. Maybe there's an issue there between head coach or Dawson and Harbaugh or someone on Harbaugh's staff?
I don't care much about OL recruit rankings- they are a crap shoot at best- but the kid is the #1 player in the state at a huge position of need and losing him to the in-state rival would suck.

Julian Barnett, another top 50 kid from Belleville has repeatedly said it's MSU or ND.  When asked about Michigan, he said they haven't even really contacted him.
There has to be something there between UM and Belleville.  Timing works out well for MSU considering all the kids they are suddenly producing.  Even Dwan Mathis is a Belleville kid playing for Oak Park.

yeah Barnett isn't even considering Michigan like at all. Michigan has never been in it- like at all.
I still think they have a shot with Dobbs- but it's dwindling. That one seems to have stalled out bad. They have a lot of ground to make up right now.
Mathis was a great pick-up. That one sucked for me as a Michigan fan. I was really hoping they'd land him. Seems like with Peters being a RS Frosh, McCaffrey being a true frosh that's taking a shirt, and 2 QB's in the 2018 class, they are going extremely slow with the QB recruiting in 2019. I think they've only offered two- JT Daniels who committed to USC and is the #1 QB, and another kid whose name escapes me but his Dad was hired at Michigan for like 20 minutes and then Oregon hired him away the next day.

Michael Johnson.  Yeah, have to assume he's Oregon-bound.

247 doesn't list any other 2019 QBs as targets.  I wonder if he's really not going after anyone, or if it's hard to land a kid knowing you have 3 QBs in the two classes in front of him.  Basically unless both 2018 kids bust, you are looking at one year at most as a starter, and that's only if you don't get passed by the kid behind you.

think I heard Harbaugh say his plan was to take one a year. I'm a fan of taking at least one a year. Especially after the QB hell that Michigan went through once Carr left. My god was that an awful run.
Hard part is keeping the QB's around. QB's these days transfer if they don't win the job right away.
I know there was a '19 QB from Texas they were looking at, don't think they really offered, but he committed to tA&M super early. Proto-type pro-style QB too, 6'6, 220 lbs with a big arm. Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me as Sumlin sucks and tA&M runs more of a spread/running QB style offense. Here's to hoping Sumlin gets fired and this kid realizes he needs to play in a pro-style offense and opens things back up.

how about some senseless 2020 recruiting jibberish. I was just perusing the way too early 247Sports 2020 rankings, and the #2 player in the nation and #1 OT is a 6'8, 275 pound kid named Kevin Pyne out of the Boston, Mass. area- Don Brown's old stomping grounds- and Don Brown has a long-standing relationship with his HS coach and that program- and 100% of his Crystal Ball picks right now are for Michigan. The #11 player in the nation and #2 OT is Myles Hinton- the 6'6, 320 pound "little brother" of Michigan commit 5* Chris Hinton Jr. 100% of Hinton's Crystal Ball picks are for Michigan as well.

If those rankings hold, good shot Michigan could wind up with the #1 and #2 OT's in the nation in the same class. Both of them are favoring Michigan right now it seems. Has that ever happened before- #1 OT and #2 OT in the same class?

Purdue able to keep 4* DE George Karlaftis, from West Lafayette, at home.  Offers from Bama, OSU, ND and the like

I watched part of a 9 year old football game near here and spotted a 6'5" 275 pound offensive guard that was really opening up holes.  I think he already has 10 offers.

Allen Trieu, the top midwest recruiting analyst over on Scout just put in a Crystal Ball for 2019 4* OT Logan Brown (6'6, 285) to Wisconsin. Trieu 21 for 21 on his Crystal Ball picks.

Not a good sign for Michigan. Brown is the #2 rated player in the state of Michigan for 2019 and the #2 rated OT in the state and the #10 rated OT in the nation. Devontae Dobbs (6'5, 280) is the #1 rated player in Michigan and the #1 OT in the nation and right now he's a heavy lean to go out of state.

Would be a complete disaster for Michigan to lose both when they need OT #'s desperately. Long way to go with both as they are 2019s, but Harbaugh needs to pull out all the stops to land both of them.

MSU has picked up a lot of momentum with Dobbs, really working that Belleville pipeline.  Barnett still seems like the more likely of the two, but Dobbs has gone from a sure bet to go out of state to MSU be very much being in the mix

This is BIG for UW. He was on his 7th visit yesterday and the game sealed the deal. I just hope he lives up to the STARZ. 6-6 285 as a junior is pretty good. He'll get to 325 after a year in the UW system.

From 247's Evan Flood:

**********************************************

Logan Brown isn't' a man of many words.

When asked about why he committed to Wisconsin on Saturday, the Top247 offensive tackle kept it simple.
"The people," he said.

Brown was in attendance for Wisconsin's 24-10 win over Michigan on Saturday. That was his sixth unofficial visit to see the Badgers.

The four-star junior chose the Badgers over the Wolverines, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan State, Louisville, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and others.

A class of 2019 prospect, Brown can't make his commitment official until next December at the earliest.

Will the nation's seventh ranked offensive tackle be tempted to look around until then?

"It's over," he said.

pay back for Michigan going up into Wisconsin and stealing Ben Bredeson in the 2016 class. Bredeson started 5-6 games as a true frosh last year at LG because of injuries and he's been a starter every game this year at LG. Obviously he's been a start able caliber B1G player, but he hasn't really lived up to the STARZ. His pass protection grade according to Pro Football Focus is the lowest of the guards on Michigan's team. Unfortunately he looks to be on that Kyle Kalis career arch.

Brown will get better OL coaching at Wisconsin. He made the right choice. I wouldn't go to Michigan if I was a hot-shot OL recruit right now. Not until they make some changes. I'm convinced that at Michigan Drevno has too much going on, too much on his plate trying to game plan and be the OC and teach the OL. OL coach needs to be an OL coach 24/7 and ONLY coach the offensive line and spend all of his time with the OL.
