2019 Nebraska Season Thread

Key tasks

1) Adding manpower to DL

2) Find suitable No. 2 and 3 WRs

3) Replace Ozigbo's production at IB

4) Get better athletes on the field at LB and S

5) Continue improvement at OL

6) Watch AMart do AMart things

***************************

Willing to juggle the order of 2-6, but 1 is set in stone imo.

Offense could be amazing next year if they find a replacement for Ozigbo.  Defense still looks a year or more away to me.  That wasn't a young unit, it just wasn't a good one.  I'm expecting a lot more of the same next year, but with the Huskers coming out ahead in a few more of those shootouts.  Enough to get into a bowl I'd assume.

Defensively there is no question that any significant improvement will require the addition of a couple new starters. Fortunately, that possibility exists, but of course its just possibility.

Up front, we had a young player (Deontre Thomas) who looked like a rare bright spot in 2017, but missed all of 2018 with injury. Back healthy, he could make a big difference at a DE position. The maturation of Damien Daniels would go MILES toward improving the NT position...he is the powerful, 320lb "fella" we need there, but was still green last year. His big brother is transferring in from Oklahoma State, and hopefully can also provide some help on the DL.

Starts there.

A Lincoln man pleaded guilty Thursday in the burglary of Nebraska football coach Scott Frost's south Lincoln home.

Andrew M. Williams, 21, will face up to 20 years in prison on the charge at his sentencing next month.

Linebacker and special teams standout Jacob Weinmaster, a former walk-on who was put on scholarship before his junior campaign last fall, will give up the game after suffering an injury late in the 2018 season.

The Lincoln Journal-Star was the first to report the news. Under head coach Scott Frost, Nebraska's policy has been to let to players announce career decisions first. Weinmaster has yet to publicly announce his departure.

The Loveland, Colo., native saw limited time on defense this year but played a key role on Nebraska’s special teams. Of his 13 total tackles on the year, eight came on kickoff and punt coverage.

After redshirting his first season in 2015, he played in 22 total games in his career and finished with 15 tackles.

Weinmaster will remain close to the program, as he will be allowed to stay on scholarship until he graduates and not count against the Huskers’ scholarship limit.

On top of that, his younger brother, Zach Weinmaster, will walk-on at Nebraska this season as a wide receiver.

LINCOLN, Neb. —
University leaders revealed the campus’ motto for 2019 – a call to action through hard work and determination, and appropriate for celebrating the University of Nebraska Lincoln's 150th anniversary.

“In our grit, our glory,” Chancellor Ronnie Green said.

It's all about football, all the time in Nebraska...............

Inscribed on the four corners of the stadium are the following words, written by former Nebraska professor of philosophy Hartley Burr Alexander:

Southeast: "In Commemoration of the men of Nebraska who served and fell in the Nation's Wars."
Southwest: "Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory."
Northwest: "Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of manly sport."
Northeast: "Their Lives they held their country's trust; They kept its faith; They died its heroes."
"Courage; Generosity; Fairness; Honor; In these are the true awards of manly sport."

Ray Lewis was smothered on that one.  I see Sapp is starting to tire too.

303/404 Tite Front

Hearing some rumors that lead me to believe we'll be seeing Nebraska implement the 303/404 front this coming season. Probably a better fit for the DL personnel we have on-hand than the 2-gap style used most of the time in 2018.
