The early draft entry has had a major hand in who did or didn't win the national championship since it began in 1990.

Yes, but I still think the end of the TV Monopoly was bigger and better (which is how I've voted).  If this was a basketball discussion I think it would be closer.

I think OSU could've used another year of Terry Glenn - it's only loss 13-9 to Michigan in what would've been his SR season.
Tennessee might've preferred having Heath Shuler another season instead of tossing true FR Todd Helton and Peyton Manning to the wolves in '94.
Does OSU lost 4 games in '94 with Dan Wilkinson plugging up the middle?
Florida doesn't lose 4 games in which they gave up 30+ points in '99 if they still had 2 first-round defenders.
The early 2000s Miami dynasty probably starts a year earlier if Edgerrin James sticks around.

How many QBs wish their left tackle hadn't left early?  How many absent shutdown CBs caused a DC to have to earn his paycheck?

Yeah, but all of those top teams have that, so I think it sort of washes out.  In basketball, the one and done has fundamentally changed how the top teams build rosters
