USF will change when Michigan changes the lyrics to Hail to the Victors.

This joke will no doubt work better when Michigan drops from being #1 in all-time wins and all-time win%. Even dropping from #1 in all-time Big Ten championships would help.

See the source image

It used to be a separate State.
That's pre-statehood.

Plug for the book How the States got their shapes....though that runs risk of turning this into um/tosu thread.

Dammit.

This seems to be the only appointment viewing Big Ten game this weekend.  Shame it's a Friday.

The ancient history has to matter just the same as the modern. Because teams like Michigan and Texas wouldn't have any modern advantages if it didn't.

The Badgers bested the Bulls 27-10 in 2014, en route to an unblemished 1-0 advantage in the all time series.

Last year they started hot and won their first seven games, before dropping their final six.

Disagree. This should be a rout. Vegas says roughly Wisconsin -12.5 or so, but I think the game will never be in doubt regardless of the final MOV.

I think there are two compelling games.

Line-wise, Northwestern @ Stanford is the closest game on the B1G docket at only +6.5. And it's the only one the B1G is an underdog. If we want to understand whether Northwestern is a threat to repeat as B1G West champions, this is must-watch.

I also think the Purdue @ Nevada game is compelling. While the line is Purdue -11, I think this is a game that very well might be in doubt late. Purdue is a very young team traveling 3 time zones west, it's a night game locally which might not be easy for such a young Purdue team to handle, it'll be played at 4500' elevation which the Purdue players may not be acclimated to, and Purdue is questionable at OL. If Purdue routs Nevada, they may be a threat for the B1G West. If they don't, they are probably at least a year away from that level.

I expect Wisconsin/USF, on the other hand, to be a typical Wisconsin slow-motion strangulation. They'll assert their will in the trenches, and regardless of whether or not the score is close at halftime, they'll be running at will come the 4th quarter and USF won't have an answer.

Minnesota has the 3rd-most Big Ten championships.

Unfortunately for Minnesota, the national helmet schools didn't durably cement themselves until ~1970. Since then no one has entered or left the club. Just like early planets that formed only to be gravitationally flung from the solar system or fall into Jupiter or the sun, Minnesota didn't last long enough for its ancient wins to count as equal to its recent ones.

In merely referring to 'the champions of the west' line.  I don't care about the accuracy of the reference to champions,  only the use of the term West, to describe Michigan in 2019.   If USF is objectionable, let's be honest about others.

While I agree this is the game to watch, I'm not sure a lackluster performance by the Cats will have any bearing on their chances to repeat as West Champs
