Ugly.
Michigan’s OL needs work. Piss poor converting 3rd downs. DB depth was an issue before losing Berry. Michigan couldn’t contain Mateer or get to him fast enough.
Glad they have two weeks before they go to Lincoln. Hoping the coaching staff sans Moore can make something out of the hot mess.
I don’t want to be an overreacting person, but maybe Moore is the problem. Underwood is a freshman, definitely looked like one yesterday, but the also made the same type of gameplan for Davis Warren and made underwood look like Warren.
I don’t know, maybe not run it up the middle on EVERY SINGLE DAMN FIRST AND SECOND DOWN. It drove me nuts ans difficult to watch, but at least the defense was good enough to enjoy one side of the ball. The defense has issues. I thought so after New Mexico and it was confirmed yesterday as well. DB is an issue and as much as I heard about the d-line all offseason, it got owned yesterday.
so did the offensive line. The blocking schemes were weird. They knew you were going to run every play and you treated your o-line like running backs that would cut back and forth and they were also owned.
late in the game they finally decided to throw and move underwood out of the pocket and possibly give him the chance to run… but it was far too late and too much pressure. This game should have been far uglier if it weren’t for the turnovers and awful special teams play by Oklahoma. Offensively and defensively Oklahoma overpowered Michigan.
One final thing. The borderline targeting from last week truly ended up being a bigger impactful call than I thought. I took the stance of, well that’s technically the rule so I have to deal with it expecting it to be called that way.. then Semaj Morgan took a late hit that wasn’t called and was directly to his head, which you could see when he clearly had a concussion as he fell twice trying to get off the field. The play Justice Haynes got smoked by a poor decision by underwood is another I’d like to see a replay of which they didn’t show because the live play looked questionably high with the hit as well. Point being, if you’re going to kick the best defender of a team out, you better stay consistent when it happens to his teammate the following week and Semaj definitely took a targeted late hit and not a damn thing was done.
all in all, Oklahoma dominated and Michigan offense looked no different than 2024 Michigan offense and defense looked worse. Could be a long season as an M fan.
last thing, if I was a sooner fan, I’d be excited to cheer on Mateer. That kid is a perfect fit for that program. He was fun to watch. Still can’t believe a qb squats 470. They said it 12 times and probably because it is that impressive.
